Hello,

I am wondering if a kit of this BAU 23-2 turret exists

You can see the turret on this page mounted on a BTR and a Ratel : http://www.morozov.com.ua/eng/body/bau23.php

Has any producer cast this item in 1/35 ?

Thank you in advance,

Richard

Thanks for the link with the vehicle!
I thought, you had miswritten something.

Interesting vehicle! But I have no idea about a turret, but perhaps SP-designs has something in their future plans.

I didnīt found something now, so perhaps one has to scratch some needed parts using additional ZU-23.2 and some ZSU Shilka parts.

greetings...
Soeren

edit: The base-vehicle looks like a BTR-70 to me, but also for this I didnīt found a conv-set.

Thank you Soeren.

My interest in this turret rose after I found a pic in a french military magazine ('RAIDS') with this strange looking turret being mounted on a south african Ratel. It is in an article about Yemen.

I seek information about a BAU 23-2 turret kit or conversion, because I have the Baxmod 1/35 Ratel resin kit and that would not be a common kit build...

So the turret kit doesn't seem to exist at all... Pity.

SP Designs future projects ? Jacques, any idea ?

Thanks,

Richard

Sergej has certainly thought about it.

The turret is only a prototype, although there may be more than 1 turret.

This is being "pushed" for export upgrades...not sure how much of a future there is for it.

Thanks Jacques.

I suppose it may be in the early stages of production or prototypes you're right.

It seems some of these are fielded by the Yemen army on Ratel chassis as it appears in the RAIDS magazine pic.

I think I also read Indonesia uses this turret on the Ratel too.

Anyway, I hope SP Designs will more than think of it

On further inspection the Kharkiv Mozorov webpage, I found the "new" BTR-4 vehicle.
Also this one can be fitted with the special turret.

It may have indeed been sold in limited numbers, but aside from your RAIDS reference, which I have not seen, there is nothing else being done with it SFAIK. Unless there are more than, say, 4, they may just be the prototypes sold off to recoup costs. I just don't know and there is a lot of goofy stuff out there.

Pics pics pics!

No, it's more than a prototype. It's used on the BTR-94, in use with the Jordainan forces, they are made in the Ukraine. Several were given to Iraq. Jordan also uses it on their version of the Ratel. Here is the result of Google search for BTR-94.

Enough pics for you? Here are a couple.

To answer the original quetion, no, there is no kit of it. The real thing is a modified BTR-80 turret.

Good job Tony, you are absolutely correct. However, I have seen this same setup called the BTR-84 instead of the BTR-94 (and if you look up BTR-84 there is nothing out there).

There are also several other Ukrainian based upgrades to confuse this with, which are indeed only in the protype phase.

But, I agree, I should have caught that correctly. Sigh, getting old...

No, it's in full production in Jordan. Here is the Ratel version.

I really should make sure that I have looked through all my material before posting. There are indeed several other prototype turrets based on dual 12.7mm and 14.5mm HMG's that I confused this turret with. Again, I blame kids and old age... (hurts my pride to screw this up considering I got some of the first pictures of the BTR-94 from intell people in Iraq.)
