You need to paint these BEFORE you install them.

I have another question for the Sherman gurus...

I've seen several pictures of Shermies with a flat plate welded in place of the horn.

Any ideas why?

And the results are....Drum roll .....

Well it's still rough but next up weathering ...

Hey Tony, I've really enjoyed your build and am looking forward to starting work on my own Dragon Priest. Question though: it looks like the yellow bands are loose around your ammo tubes . . . is that possible?

Ok guys, I'm going to commit to a Tasca build. Should I go with a Firefly Vc, a M4A1 DV, or a M4A1 Late?

Also, I have never used Tasca's tracks before. They are the best looking vinyl tracks that I have ever seen, but I'm also not a fan of vinyl tracks and was wondering how these ones hold up, and whether or not I should replace them with AM?

Jeremy,

That’s good you’re going with a tasca kit. Can’t really recommend which to use, It’s what ever suits your fancy.

I will tell you to check my build log for modifications that would need to be done on the M4A1 Late.

Shave rivets from lower hull to convert it to welded hull.

Recounture the lower rear plate. (might be better off buying the correct lower hull from formations)

Buy the late sharp nose transmission and suspension ride height spacers from formations.

I also have a metal barrel from Lion Marc

I am looking at a set of tow cables from Formations as I shaved off some of the molded on parts from the hull and the cable set has the replacement parts.

I haven’t gotten to the tracks yet, so I have no comment on them one way or the other.

Or you could pick up the new easy 8 kit and knock us out with it!

John: That would give me an excuse to get myself in trouble at my lhs tomorrow...
I also am going to be building the M4A1 Late at some point in time, so I will have to make sure to finish following your build. I already have the LionMarc barrel, but will need the other parts.

Richard: That blue tac looks like it worked out great! I need to figure out where I can find some of that stuff locally...

Tony: If you hadn't said anything, we wouldn't have known The more I see your build, the more I really want that Priest.

Hey Chris
I believe what you're seeing as a flat plate is actually remnants of the mounting bracket for said siren. The flat plate actually should be twice that length with the bottom bent upwards (to form a V shape when viewed side-on). The siren attached to that, so the bottom edge of that plate in your pic probably has a rough edge where the upturned section has severed... I think

No Not Possible The yellow bands are color coded tape to denote "HE=High Explosive" and seal the seam where the cap and the tube body meet.
Some crews left them on when placed in the bins and others took them off. To give the model some color amongst all that OD,I left them on but removed a few to denote ready rounds.

I sprayed a coat of "Future" on the tubes before installing the decals so they would snug down and also to prevent "Silvering". I think what makes them look loose is the reflection of the decals on the tubes next to each other.

I'll spray a coat of "Lusterless Flat" on them before I do the final weathering and kill the shine.

For a shaky old man to free hand those pole stripes and not get paint where it didn't belong was a feat I don't wish to go through again in the future.

It's flattering to know I might be setting an example for other to follow and make life easier for you.

Thanks for the kind words folks.

PS: BTW Bear the camo looks great.

Yeah Tony, you’re setting an example alright, a bad example. Thanks to your magnificent build, I am going to have to divert desperately needed funds to a Dragon M7 kit.

All joking aside, you’re doing a good job man.

Thanks Brad. Now that you describe it, yeah, that makes alot of sense. I think I shoulda been able to figure that one out. I feel kinda silly.

Richard,

I like how your using silly putty for the camo pattern. I purchased some a while ago but have never used it. Sure seems to make painting camo easy. Should look fantastic when your done weathering.

I know what you mean about being old and shaky. Toss in the fact that I can't see and it really makes for a fun time!

Sure is a nice build coming along!
