Hi guys,
I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction regarding city or town buildings in Vietnam. I would like to build a diorama in 1/35th depicting the house to house fighting on the streets of Hue during Tet '68.
Are there any good depictions of Vietnamese city type buildings on the market?
Can anyone provide good me with some good reference material on the subject?
Any help would be truly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Joe.

Hi Joe , I'll send you some photos , also there was a thread on a new Ontos kit a short time ago that included a link to footage of fighting around Hue during the Tet offensive in1968 . Think french colonial for a lot of the architecture

Hi Gino,
Yeah, I should have said I know about this one already. What about shops & apartment buildings? What kind of dwellings did Vietnamese city folk live in?
You know, some of the few clear photos I have of the Hue '68 battle show buildings in more of a French style due to the years of colonialisation.
Mabye that's a line I could go down.
Thanks mate.
Joe.

Hi Brian,
I would love the photos, mate! Yeah, as I say, French colonial would probably be the way to go.
How are you getting on at work this week, by the way?
Take care, mate.

There are no other ready-made Vietnamese building sets that I know of. You may be able to modify some French WWII buildings or some of the Middle Eastern buildings on the market to suite though. Other than that, get some books on Vietnam and start scratch-building.

These are freely available on the web, they just needs some searching out: CanTho and CanTho2
from this website - most city and town buildings are like this. It's more common to have long thin/deep plots for buildings rather than wide streetfronts, so most buildings are 'single' width, but go back a long way...
But as models go, so far this is the only one i've ever come across which looks anything like downtown Saigon: 35002 (Scroll down to it - 'Vietnam House Front')

Hope this helps...
Richard

Brian,
What are you doing? Out shooting crocodiles, mate?
Thanks for the photos, fella. I've replied to the email you sent me so check it out later. Excellent pics. Thanks to you too, Gino!
Brian, good luck with the flies.
Stay safe, friend.
Joe.

Hey Chris,
Now that's what I'm looking for! That's great. I'll get on to them now to see if I can get one.
Is this kind of a generic style? I mean was the same building design copied all the way down a street or was each building different?
Mabye I could use a couple of these put together to lengthen the dio. What do you think?
