This relatively simple dio idea came about after I finished a section of heavily postered and grafittied Belgium wall section for a then unspecified project,
...and fleshed out to include the wall section, a Sherman and wrecked German Kubelwagen ditched by its former occupants. Everything here in its bare bones beginning stages, lots of building ahead...
The idea begins to take shape, base will require an irrigation or drainage ditch, cobblestone road and the rear of the heavily posted wall section will also need attention. I fashioned the sidewalk and road section fill-ins from puttty,
Here the initial digging of the water channel and subsequent placing of the Kubelwagen and Sherman to get a sense of balance, note that the road sections haven't yet been completely installed,

Great start, man. By the way, what kind of foam did you use for the base?

More work done to the base, very basic groundwork and water channel floor detail added,
And then a little more filling in[ note the still wet white glue pools ],
Another test fitting of the Sherman which has recieved it's basic paint job ....
And more filling in with another test fitting of the Kubelwagen in the drainage ditch, still A LOT more to do on the groundwork to bring it to spec,.

Using hard styrofoam for the base cut to basic size and then shaped w/ a hot knife, found at any florist shop.

Wow, Jon, this is great!
The sidewalk, the ditch .. all very well executed and realisticly rendered. The fence is cool to.
I really like it!
I just noticed the lower left part of the "cobbles". What is that?!
You used premade cobbleroad pieces and did not have enough of them and filled that part with...what exactly? Comm'on, you can replicate cobble better then that.
Please redo that part, otherwise i will retract the first line of my post :-)
Cheers
Claude

Great dio, Jon! I can only dream of getting to this level of modelling.
If I were to nitpick, the street sign is a bit awkward. "Place de l'Opéra" means "Opera Square" and is quite barely used to christen a country/suburb road.

Wow, looks fantastic! What material did you use for the dirt in the ditch?
Cheers!

Sciappapetre,
Thanks for weighing in, I don't know whether you can see it but there's an opera poster on the adjoining wall, both of which were meant to represent the perimeter wall of a Music House.
Stefan,
I used Celuclay as the basis of the groundwork with real dirt and ground materials enhanced by MIG pastels to weather. By the way the groundwork is barely 50% done, much left to do...

Your composition is very good. I like the raised portion in the foreground.
The debris and rubble are well executed and generally a very well detailed scene.
My only advice is to round off the balsa trim rather than having a step in the top.
Very well done!
Regards
Garth

Garth,
Yea, I agree with you about that step but am not quite sure the best way to 'blend' it in.....
Beginning work on the rear of the collapsed wall,

looks great but two small points - the Kubel looks like it has the desert ballon tires. I would "steer" the front wheels a little left or right, too... but it looks good!

Wheels are steered to the left, will post better pictures of the crashed Kubel shortly....

Yo John,
Very nice project! Big..but you fill al up the places of you're groundwork...result in mutch detail, love it.
So mutch different color in one scene...amazing to see how you fixed that....
My only point, I think that the lamp is to big for the setting...maybe a more smaller piece should be better....just place a fig right under it...you will see wath I mean.
Nice work!

Fantastic job on the wall corner! Love the the derelict look of all the leftovers.
Re the "opera" stuff, what I was meaning is a music house is scarcely located in a suburb/country landscape like the spot you modeled so nicley, and a square is not a road, but that was only nitpicking :o
