Well. Another model completed. My improved CIWS model. I havn't checked out the scale exactly but I'm judging it is between 1/18 and 1/20 scale:

You can see many pics of it here

Enjoy

Plasticbattle, the CIWS stands for Close-In Weapon System. It operates on automatically; that is on it' own. It targets incoming bogeys using it's own radar system which evaluates the threat and eliminates it, wheather it's a cruise missile or aircraft. It fires 4500 rounds per minute using 20mm shells. It's extremely powerful one of the last line of defense for naval ships(carriers, crusers etc. )

Below is a fairly comprehensive link to the Phalanx CIWS. IIRC guys in the navy call them "R2" for obvious reasons.

Thanks to all for the warm compliment. I'm working on another kitbash/scratchbuilt model. Based on a Israeli radar trailer and anpther model called the Ratac. Anything seldom seen is the name of the game for me. :-)

Ti,

do you also have a model of the Goalkeeper ? The Dutch designed CIWS system which is (going) to be built under license by the US. According to some reports to replace the Phalanx.

Good looking model... what did you use ? Pictures and then derive the (relative) dimensions from that ?

Thanks.
Zero here is the one that hobby fan sells. It's very well done and weathered nicely. I think I should weather mine a bit...
