Has anybody come up with good matches for these in either Humbrol or Mr Color? Unfortunately their appearance appears to differ substantially depending upon whether the picture is taken under flash or natural light, and the colors in the digital scheme don't appear to be the same as in the previous scheme (other than the obvious fact that there's an extra one).

The Bronco instructions list the colors for the three colors in the non-digital camo as being Mr Color 135 (which is Russian Green (1) - presumably meant to be 4BO green), Mr Color 313 (which is FS 33531) and Mr Color 320 (helpfully called Dark Green) in the 99/99G instructions, or Mr Color 17 (also Dark Green, this time RLM 71) in the 99A1 instructions.

They suggest the same three colors, plus Mr Color 38 (Olive Drab (2)), presumably as the "extra" green in the digi camo.

However, none of the three greens seems light enough for the digi camo green, the sand/tan in the digi camo looks to be closer to FS 30219, I'm scratching my head about the mid-green, and WEM's Soviet Tank Green looks pretty good for the darkest green.

Looking at some photos of the older camo, though, the sand color appears to be very pale sand, the ligher green's something close to Tamiya XF-5 and the dark green, again, looks a good match for WEM Soviet Tank Green.

None of this has anything to do with the fact that I've got a lot of WEM Soviet Tank Green (the modern color, not 4BO), of course.

However, I've also seen the three-color camo in photos with the sand looking more like field drab/earth. and the lighter green looking rather less vivid.

Anybody know of a good set of matches for these? I know the PLA probably doesn't encourage people to chip paint off of their tanks, so accuracy is always going to be dubious. Most of the discussion I've been able to find of ZTZ camouflage has deteriorated into the same few people making accusations about the origins of the Bronco kit and generally not being useful.

There are a *lot* of photos out there, 90% of which seem to be from the same parade. However, getting a decent set of color matches for both schemes would help with painting not just the ZTZ-99s, but also the ZBD-04, ZLC-2000 and the three nice 80s-era PLA kits that Trumpeter did a while back (as well as nailing the green for their PLA tank transporter and big nuke).

Cheers,

Al
