This is what I found interesting for the Bradley:
This model features parts for replication electronic equipment featured on the upgraded ODS version (range finder, GPS, digital compass antenna sensor, CIP, etc.), as well as exhaust cover and two types of 25mm Cannon barrels.
Hopefully this means that we'll have the infamous fluted barrel that the later Bradleys and LAV-25 use!

What's the chance that they include later style tracks and an A2 interior? I'd love to see them include the M3A2 cargo hatch and an M3A2 ramp as well. I fear we'll see another skimped on update.

The tracks I'm not sure of but I would bet $5 bucks someone will do LTL plastic tracks like Modelkasten or Modeltrack. Also Blast models has Resin update with new roadwheels/tracks and shocks with it.

Strange to see that Tamiya is able to re-release a M113A1 as M113A2, did they add the shock-absorber to the second roadwheel?
Gr,
Stranger/stupider yet is that Most of the M113A3 over there are A3...I'm assuming since on the M113, the external tanks are a good giveaway of an M113A3 RISE upgrade on the APC verison. I personally haven't seen M113A2s with external tanks fitted, unless they where motar tracks.

I have a feeling that Tamiya developed these kits years ago and just waited for their cycle of Modern, Allied, and Axis to return to "Modern" again. Remember all the hoopla on the Type 87 IFV? We have yet to see that and I think quite a few people confirmed that Tamiya is making one. Perhaps the Type 87 will be saved for the NEXT modern release cycle. By then, who knows how current it'll be.
The M1025 and M966 seem developed back in 1998 when the Kosovo crisis was hot. No SINCGARS, old tires, no winch, no rear bumper, no add-on armor, old PAGST vests, etc. In fact, AM General has scale line drawings of these vehicles that are easy to get if one writes for them.
Tamiya seems to be doing what DML is doing by revamping old kits for OIF.
So far from Tamiya:
* M1025
* M966 TOW
* M2A2 OIF
* M113A2
* Backpacks and buttpacks (although these aren't the newest styles. The DML ones are).
I doubt Tamiya will release any more modern kits this year and will go back to the Allied and Axis cycle and THOSE kits will be new. By revamping old modern kits, Tamiya can say, "Been there, done that, time to move back to Axis and Allied now. Until the next `modern' time!"
As for the M2A2's tracks and running gear, there's no release date on that kit, is there? Tamiya could still correct the oversights and release that kit at a later date because once released, who knows when Tamiya will go back to correct things, if ever. Take a look how long it's been from the ODS M2A2 kit to the OIF one.

I am excited to see them doing some modern stuff, just wish it was a real step up from what they have now. It would be nice to see the M3A2 like Sabot said, or even the A3 variant of the vehicle. Looks to me like a "Windows ME" type project. Let’s put some bells and whistles on it and sell it as new. I am more interested in the accessory pack they will be selling with separately myself. I guess I should just be happy that it isn't a panther or tiger.

According to details pics that can be found on Tamiya website, the tracks of the OIF M2A2 are the NEW tracks ! Even if they are not link-by-link it's good news. The icing on the cake (at least on mine ) is that the jerry cans that appeared on the pics of the "new" M113A2 have a corrected bottom (with bulges), so I just have to wait for the release of the new "modern accessories set" rather than cast scratchbuilt accurate cans

YESSS!!!! New tracks!!! Me be happy!
I already have one resin Blast Models new tracks set ordered, but as an upgrade set for AAVP7A1. I think I can live with vinyl tracks for Bradley - unless you remove some armour plates, most of the track is hidden, so indi tracks are not a necessity. Is HLJ taking pre-orders yet?...
Regards,
Pawel

I also noticed that M113A2 also looks more interesting than early shots suggested. New pictures show that M2 .50" MG is a new part, not the old one shown on previous photos.
I think ACAV style commander cuppola shields will also be included.
Tracks however were not updated - they are still completely featureless on the inner side.

Pawel

Why does Tamiya call it ODS? Shouldn't it be OIF? After all, I doubt the CIPs were available in ODS.
It's a minor naming issue although I think Tamiya will sell more kits if correctly labeled OIF.
The model looks mighty impressive! Take a look at all that surface detail from the boltheads!
BTW, how does one add a photo? I'm sick of being a Question Mark

Go to "My Account" Choose "Change Passwords/Setting". Scroll down to "My Avatar" and follow the directions.
I had to snicker at all the "stuff" on the 113 and Bradley. It's all that new magic stickum pack material. #:-)

The ODS version of the M2A2 and M3A2 is not named because it saw service during Desert Storm but rather for the modifications made to the M2A2/M3A2s as a result of feedback from combat use during Operation Desert Storm (ODS). Helps idenitfy which A2s have had the ODS modifications and which ones haven't. Tamiya's naming is correct.Why does Tamiya call it ODS? Shouldn't it be OIF? After all, I doubt the CIPs were available in ODS.

Looking at the new link and picture (in Japanese) I can say for sure I will be getting the accessory pack that will be coming out. Those ruck sacks look about as good as anything else I have seen, and they arn't even resin.
Does anyone know what the exact upgrades came with the ODS upgrades? I heard one of them was adding armor protection when the TOW launcher is up, is that true? Any info on this would be greatful.

One of the main ODS upgrades is an ATGM IR dazzler system mounted on top of the gun mantle similar to the one the USMC M1A1 has. However, I'm not sure if that ever went into actual service.
Thanks, Rob, for the info on the ODS. I should've known better myself .

ODS Improvements Increase Operational Effectiveness
The latest in equipment upgrades for the M2A2 and M3A2 vehicles will be available next year when Operation Desert Storm (ODS) improvements will be installed.
Six high-priority improvements, as a result of over 300 recommendations coming from ODS experience, will be fielded by September 1996.
Some of the system improvements are:
Eyesafe Laser Rangefinder (ELRF)
· Completely eyesafe for all training, demonstrations and battlefield scenarios
· Range capability: 200-10,000 meters
· Improves fire control for 25 mm cannon
· Provides out of range information all ammunition
· Determines location of distant objects.
Navigation System (TAC NAV) (Digital compass plus PLGR)
· Provides a complete navigation system whenever the GPS (PLGR) is installed
· Features navigation capability with dead reckoning capability when the GPS is not available
Driver’s All Weather Viewer (DAWV)
· Improves night driving visibility
· Improves day driving visibility in obscured conditions
Restowage
· Adds Javelin and AT4 missiles
· Adds MRE heater
· Provides bench seats
· Improves 25 mm ammunition stowage
Missile Countermeasures Device (MCD) (available to selected units as needed). The MCD will defeat some types of guided missiles.
Battlefield Combat ID System (BCIS). Future plans include BCIS, an all-weather interrogate/ transpond identification system. BCIS will be applied to 22 different platforms to identify a target as friendly or unknown.
Additional Improvements
Other planned vehicle upgrades include:
· TEC transmission
· Vehicle Intercommunication System (VIS)
· Electro-hydraulic engine access door
Also take notice that non-ODS Bradleys had MWO's applied to them to upgrade certain compents to bring them ODS standards. When I was in my Bradley unit we had old Brad's from Desert Storm that had the new Exhaust and gunners sight installed but none of the other doo-dads that are on this list...like the electronic transmission, which would have made my life alot easier while I was there #:-)
I've also noticed that the Laser Dazzler was never installed on any vehicles or it was never fielded. Other odd thing is that theres an ERA package that was made for the M2A2 and that was never used in OIF and the only "combat" photo I've seen of a Bradley with it applied was to Haiti IIRC!
