GREETINGS ALL !
I need help in trying to find some info and history on the various colored 3-BAR TACTICAL CODES used by the 29th Infantry Division in both the forward and rear areas during the D-DAY INVASION.
I remember seeing something YEARS AGO in A BOOK, but can't remember the specifics or the title.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks As Usual,
ABD

Hey AIRBORNEDAD, sit tight! Help is on the way.
I contacted the men over at the 29th ID site, who in their extreme kindness are sending a copy of the GI Journal in which the 3 bar code is described. So far he tried to descibe it like this:
I can help you but you have to wait a day or so.
When I provide the info, I will describe it this way as they were
in various bars all in a square, like the numbers on a phone
123
456
789
He confirmed today that the copy is on the way. I can either scan and email or send it to you.
When I receive it, I'll update here.

A book I found online may also have the information you seek.
It's titled "Beyond The Beachhead: The 29th Infantry Division in Normandy"
by: Joseph Balkoski
A brief desrciption:
From the horrific landings against tough German opposition at Omaha Beach - as featured in the film Private Ryan to the liberation of St Lo forty-five days later, this is the full story of an American division thrust into the crucible of battle. Drawing on personal accounts, official documents and a wealth of primary material, Beyond the Beachhead brings to life one division's experiences and recreates life in the ranks of this unit of citizen-soldiers.
