Hi everybody,

for a while I've been busy with Revells' Fennek in 1/72.

The wheeled armed reconaissance vehicle 'Fennek' (Desert Fox) is a cooperation between the German army and the Dutch Army. Given the superb characteristics of these vehicles, it has also been called the army sports verhicle.

The Dutch army uses these reconaissance vehicles in Afghanistan and such a vehicle will be the center of this topic.

The Revell kit is a nice kit, but both Eduard as well as Extratech have PE update sets for this vehicle which add to the detail of the vehicle. The Fenneks used in Afghanistan are characterized by strips for their windows to prevent glare and it looks similar to bar armour, but it is not. Tracks and Troops provide such strips for the Fennek. T and T has also resin tyres for the Fennek, which are much better than provided in the kit. Finally, T and T has decals for the Fennek in Afghanistan.

The Extratech PE provides some parts for an interior, which I decided to add, although you will probably don't see much of it with the strips in front of the window. The PE parts contain engraved instrument dials, which can be nicely visible when filling the lines with white paint.

I decided to paint the whole interior black, as this will obscure the lack of interior even more.

This is the .50 machinegun updated with PE.

The front of the Fennek. I will add a tow cable from Euraka XXL, just like the vehicles have in Afhanistan. I also scratch some antennas not provided in the Revell kit.

The last picture is of the rear of the vehicle, which is now completely done.

Jelger, you must be a pure committed masochist. The .50 cal add on bits alone blow my mind! Any intricate Braille scale build of this nature is a must to watch. Can't wait to see more and thanks for sharing this fascinating build.

Cheers,
Jan

Wow, looks great. You must have a steady hand and very good eye-sight.

I'll wait for someone to do a Fennek in 1/35

Cool looking recon vehicle Jelger! Gotta love the PE and Resin! Can't wait to see it finished. Is it going to stand alone, or go into a dio???

Hi everybody,

thank you for the nice comments! It really takes some patience to put on the small parts, with superglue you have little time to correct. I will put the Fennek on some small groundwork, just to emphasize the dessert-like and dusty conditions in Afghanistan.

Within a few days I will post new pictures, as I already have made some progression.

Wooow!
Very interesting project. I did not know that there is so much adds on for Fennek! Congratulations for nice detailing. I am looking forward to see the paint job. Some days ago I found a picture of Dutch Fuchs from Afghanistan with a really crazy camo...

Cheers!

Hi Jelger,

Really nice build, excellent use of the aftermarket products. I think the Revell kits are excellent value for money and do well when upgraded like this. I look forward to seeing more of this build. Well done.

All the best,

Paul
