Hey Guys,
I want to do some scratchbuilding on my new project (Legend 1114 converson set) to fill the void on standard items that are not made by aftermarket companies. I have the normal measurement of the real life items. How do I convert it to 1/35 scale? What do I devide by? Hope you can help. Cheers and thanks.

Use mm and devide by 35 to get the downsized item.

Tony,

Either multiply the actual dimension by the fraction "1/35", or divide the actual dimension by "35".

The trick is to convert the actual dimension into the unit of measure that the reduced scale dimension will be. If you have an actual full-scale measurement of 10 feet, 6 inches, you should change it to 126 inches. Then dividing by "35" gives you a scale dimension of 3.6 inches.
10' - 6" = 126" / 35 = 3.6"

If you had a larger actual full-scale measurement of 87 feet, 6 inches, you could keep it in feet as 87.5 feet, then divide by 35, and you would get 2.5 feet.
87' - 6" = 87.5' / 35 = 2.5'

Does all of this make sense?

Good luck with that project.

You may want to consider the model you are designing the conversion for, ie, it may not be exactly 35 times smaller than the one you are measuring from. I would use the kit as the start point and see how your measurements of the 1:1 scale version compare. But honestly, if you did not know what 1/35 scale is...may the force be with you.

Thanks Guys for the help. It is appreciated. Graeme, I do know what 1/35 scale is, I have being modelling for some time. I am trying to scratch build some 40mm MK19 rounds and link with full and expended rounds. It should be interesting to have a go.

Okaaaayyy. But since I am not a total prick: 3.2mm long x 1.2mm o/d rod would put you in the ball park. Empty casings are a nice touch, they would probably be brass for anything approaching scale.
