Can anybody help me with a good and really transparent acrylic matt coat? I've tried the Hobbycolor but it's easy to get annoying white spots, with Valleyo (not the one specific for airbrush that is more like Tamiya flat base) but the result is unpredictable. I'd like to find an alternative to Testors Dullcote Enamel, that seems to "suffer" when I apply "filters" or "washes" specially when I use white spirit as thinner...

The only one I could suggest is the same I use, Model Masters Acryl - Flat Clear Acryl # FM02015.

Hi Scoccia

I mostly use Microscale's Mico Flat - it's water soluble, so I guess it's acrylic...

Alternatively there's Humbrol 5220 Matt Acrylic Varnish

I've got a bottle of Vallejo 520, but haven't tried it yet - what's been your experience with it?

All the best

POLLYSCALE!!!! love the stuff. It can be hard to find so I stock up when I see it, but it's great stuff....dries dead flat. I also use the MM but it doesn't always seem to dry as flat as Pollyscale. I also have a bottle of Micro Scale Flat but i haven't tried it out.

I have not had a lot of experience with Microscale Micro Flat but the experience I have had shows it to be very base coat sensitive. Sometimes it is a perfect flat finish but at other times it seems more semi-gloss. I have not accumulated enough evidence to be able to state what it works on, and what it does not like, but I would suggest caution.

I usually use Humbrol flat clear which is of course an enamel. From my experience enamels are more reliable and easier to use but I know many people seem to feel the same about acrylics.

You could try 25% Tamiya flat base with 75% klear (future). I use a couple of thin coats and it works ok.
Hope this helps.
