I picked up dragon's new 105 kit. After playing around with the figures I decided to build it as a towed piece. My question is, "could I use an AFV Club WC51 Beep as the tow vehicle?" Also, there were no shell crates unlike the German PaK guns by Dragon so I will have to scratch build them. are there 2 rounds per box and rope or wood carrying handles ? Thanks, Tom

Usual tow vehicle for a 105 mm howitzer would be a GMC CCKW 352 short wheelbase 2.5 ton truck, though presumably, some of the longer CCKW 353 trucks might have been substituted (the 353 is available in kit form from Tamiya, Heller and Italeri, but nobody offers the short wheelbase truck in styrene). An M3 halftrack could also have that assignment (the M2 didn't have enough seats for a minimum crew).

As Gerals says, a 2 1/2 ton truck was the usual prime mover. For ammo, you are correct, it was 2 rounds, each in a paper tootsie roll, per wooden box with rope handles. Resicast has a 105mm ammo set. Also AFV Club has announced a future release of one in plastic.

Verlinden makes a set of 105mm ammo, casings, crates and fiber tubes.
IIRC, someone does brass cartridges.
