Not my usual area, but I was looking for a good kit of a tank destroyer (turretless) or assault gun. I've got a Tamiya StuG IIIG and a SU-122 as well as a DML ISU-122. Any other good gun I should be on the look out for?

I love the Tamiya JagdPanther #35203. I've got two of them and it is up to Tamiya's top quality we've come to expect from them. My first one was built OOTB but I'm going to get a p/e set for the yet to be built second one.

Well Rob, I've alway been a fan of the Swedish 'S' Tank. I think it's designator is STRV-103?
I'm not really sure why I like it so much, but I do. I think it may have somethingto do with my penchant for 'unusual' armour pieces...

My local hobby store had a Accurate Armour kit of the 'S' tank on sale one day when I stopped by there. I think they had it marked down to $59.95 or something like that. I hesitated and thought I'd just come back in the next day or so. Well, Murphy raised his ugly head, and when I returned,it was gone! Always regretted that moment of indecision. Now it's become one of those kits that orbit out there on the outer rim of my 'intent to buy' list.

Oh, BTW, I've read some write-ups on the build up of the 'S' tank. From what I've read, aside from just a couple of small issues, the kit builds up to a great model.

I highly recommend the Tamiya #35203 Jagdpanther late version, Dragon Jagdtiger and Tamiya latest Marder III (76,2 mm Russian gun). I have these kits. They are fun to build, have great detail and look great built even OOTB.

If you like the SU-122 you might try to get the Zvezda SU-100 or SU-85 because they are both very nice kits. DML also makes an SU-100 (not sure about the SU-85), but it isn't as accurate as the Zvezda one. Tamiya makes an SU-85, but it is an old kit like the SU-122 is so it isn't as nice as their newest releases. It can be made into a nice tank though.

The Tamiya Late Jagdpanther is absolutely one of their best. And, you can build it a couple of different ways based on the parts in the box.

Stay away from the older tamiya releases like the SU-85... and go for the very nice SU-85M or SU-100 from DML( this is a WWII version, Zvedza kit is a post war version).

The DML Jagdtiger's are currenlty pretty rare, but if you see one get it... these kits are among the best from DML.

The DML Jagdpanzers are all very good and include the the L/70(V), L/70(A). THe Stug IV Early has been re-released...(it's even been spotted at your favourite Squadron Shop).

A real "sleeper" is the Eastern Express KV-14B... this is really a nice kit, except for the tracks, which are pretty much unusable. It also serves as an excuse to get the ModelPoint barrel for this beast, truly an amazing piece of aluminum and brass work.

For early war vehicles, I can recommend the Stug III A, B and C from DML... very nice and a good value for less than $30!

There are alot of great turretless tank destroyers. My favorite being The 38t Hetzer. Italeri and DML both make varients of the Hetzer. Another favorite of mine is the JagdTiger. DML has discontinued their version, but can still be picked up at most hobbyshops online. :-)

I've built the DML StugIIIB, DML Stug IV early, and Shanghai Dragon Brummbar late. All are nice kits. I'd go with the StugIIIB if I had to choose one. Comes with a bit of PE, there are lots of parts, and historically, it was the first fully enclosed SPG to see extensive service in WW2 (the A version was not built in great numbers as I recall).

I have lots of unbuilt kits, but I figure I'll just recommend what I know 'intimately'!

a different tank destroyer:
1). a british universal mkll with 3 panzerschreck in rear
2). a french hotchkiss with a 7.5cm pak 40

how's that sabot for something different

A French Hotchkiss with the 7.5 cm is a nice one, I saw one built in the local hobby shop, but the price tag is somewhat like USD 100.00, a bit steep for me at this moment. (End of the month, still waiting for my next pay check. )

I had built the jagdpanther, Marder III from Tamiya as well as the Jagdpanzer IV L/48 from DML, they are all very nice kits. Really enjoyed it. Now is working on my Stug III now. I am a bit of assult gun/tank destoryer fan. So Among my first 6 completed AFV, half of them without a turret. :-) They are just too cool.

If I were you, and if you were not in an uncontroallable thing that you must build one now. May I suggest that it might be interesting to see the new DML Nashorn....

I plan on adding the the cross-pattern Zimmerit technique that Bob Oehler
did in FSM.

Ive built Tamiyas Jadgpanther Late Model, and added pe stuff, makes it for a great fun, and its big and also have a wide variety of paint schemes.
Ive also done a Hetzer from DML, dont remember which one, I think it was the one with the flame thrower option on it, it went together great and is a sharp looking tank, also have wide variety of paint schemes, the ambush colors being my favorite.
I aint said anything new but thats just my 2¢

I built the Italeri one a long time ago, how is the DML one? I've always like that bantam tank destroyer.

The DML Hetzer is much better than the Italeri one. The Italeri one was a nice kit when it came out, but it is a bit dated now (i.e. it doesn't have any detail on the side of the roadwheels that face the tank). The DML one on the other hand is a nice kit. Definately worth buying if you like that vehicle.
