I hope you blokes don't mind me dumping this here as I'm a little stuck in the middle, I deliberately stuck in some row boats to keep in with the water/sea people, then I've used rather a lot of WW1 troops, still, maybe you'll let me know one way or the other.

Apart from the backdrop which will require a touch up, most of this has now been finished, just a bit of TLC here and there.

Hi Alec, Nice concept for your dio. The split level approach adds alot to it. Could you post a couple more photos? .........Vince

With a bit of luck, I should have this finished by the weekend, most of the ground work is finished, the troops and bushes just a little touch here and there.

After clicking on the picture and going over to flickr (you may resize the pict. for us) i could identify what this is.

This looks really good. I like those two levels.
What is the scale and why put in in a box ?

Cheers
Claude

Looks pretty good from where I'm sitting, Al. The groundwork and the rock face are very nicely done.

Ah good question - this is suppose to a 3-D photo, some call them shadow box dioramas, whereas a normal diorama would be open allowing the viewer to see all sides, with a box diorama, quite often paint would be missed because you won't be able to view it, this is both a lazy man's diorama and a good idea all rolled into one, I have simply cut the whole thing in half using a step diorama giving me the row boats below and the WW1 troops above while at the same time being able to view both, but within the confine of a box. A bit later on, I'll take some more pic's showing you the two levels.

Hello there, almost finished, not to sure about the far right hand corner, this is a split level shadow box diorama, in photo 1 you can view the whole diorama within its box, photo 2 while physically attacthed can be viewed seperately from the main diorama, although within the same scope and time scale you can imagine this is a totally different diorama, and finally photo 3 which will again tell a quite different story to the row boats.

5 long days and finally finished this split diorama shadow box thingy, I am rather pleased how the rock formation turned out considering its mostly scatter and cork pressed onto filler.

There is colour, not to much in the way of plant life, a nice little back drop which really should have gone in first, over on MSW I am asking for people to leave a caption as I wanted this diorama to be a little bit of fun rather then a serious build.

The troops were a pain and some (sorry) mould lines on their hats that I totally missed, its not an excuse but I did begin painting in the evening and before I knew where I was, it was way gone 3am so my eyes were probably being held up by matches. Still, I hope you like what I've done, I've tried to get just about everything out of this idea, a shadow box diorama, a split level diorama, and fun time old seaside post card type of thing.
