I've seen green tigers, but that was in Tunisia.
As far as I know, he base color by the time combat was in Italy was dark yellow.

Hi Venom thought these two sites could help you Panzerdiesel at http://www.panzerdiesel.com and also Tiger Panzer Vl at http://panzer-vi.fsnet.co.uk/units.html. Both sites offer short histories and /or graphes regarding unit deployments. As far as Italy is concerned I found two of the Abtielung the s. PzAbt 504 served in Italy between Mar 43-45 (not continuously). The unit was formed on Jan 13 1943. The second unit was s.PzAbt508 which served in Italy between Feb 44-45 again not continously. The unit was formed May 11,1944. Hope this helps. I know there are a couple of other sites with similiar info but have to check the rest of my favorites library. This should get you started.

As far as I know the green tiger is still a very debatable issue. Many had concluded that the old pic might be a culpit that the tiger appeared green whilst it was not. It's like an urban legend for the tiger builders. #:-)

Hi Dave, actually it is true. Heer sPz Abt.508 had a camo scheme which consisted of small dark green & larger dark brown stripes and patches over a DARK OLIVE - GREEN BASE COAT ........ ( reference from Tigers In Combat Vol.1 ).
......... In Tunisia, sPz Abt.501 repainted some of their Tiger I's with OLIVE DRAB paint captured from the U.S. Army. They liked it for camouflage because it was more suitable and blended well with the vegetation of the Tunisian landscape in the north.

On the contrary, the formation of Heer sPz Abt.508 took place in France, on May 11, 1943 using the I.Abteilung / Pz. Reg.29

Thanks for the kind words Dave, but the real credit goes to great authors / researchers / and historians of tanks & other armored vehicles, who get their hard earned work published and distributed, and then into our hands. Men such as Tom Jentz, Wolfgang Schneider, Horst Scheibert, Steve Zaloga, and some other's, contiuously commit themselves to years & years of research & travel. ..... It's from what they know & have written about, that I have learned from & pass on to my "scale modeling brother's " when they ask for help. ....... And that's why I will never think twice about paying a hefty price for any of their book's. However there are many authors out there who don't really research, & cross-reference there work & mis-caption many photo's, because of this lack of research, and are just out to make a few buck's $$$$ ..................those are the one's to stay away from !

Anyhow, I'm up & around again Dave and I appreciate you asking. LIFE IS GREAT !
I hope all is well with you also ?

Venom. sPz.Abt.508 served most of its career in the Italian Campaign 1944-45. Not sure on 'green' tigers, but I know for a fact Tigers of 508 had heavy overpsray of both Olivegrun (Olive Green) and Rotbraun (Red Brown). Best photo refernces on this unit are Tigers in Combat Vols 1+ 2, and Schwerer Panzer Ableitung 508. Both books are Published by J.J. Fedorowicz of Canada. Exellent books, I highly recommend them.

Ciao

Ralph I stand corrected! I can't remember whether I copied it wrong or the information was wrong. But either way that is why I love this site. Even if you have information you can check through "our" crowd and usually get confirmation on your research. Besides the fact of what you learn reading all the posts.
