A great part of this hobby is to be creative and do it yourself. Ready made anything makes it more of a collection than an art to build. Do not worry if your figures are not perfect . They will get better with time. And just my two cents worth, a lot of really nice figures have that over painted look , which means to me that they look painted and not real. They look great and expressive but they look painted. Kinda like the makeup on a beautiful woman. Lightly done looks great but overdone looks sleazy and fake.

Maybe you could put some ivy on the fence... or a mailbox to the corner, or a garbage bin, or a fire tap, or a telephone booth, an advertising pillar, a man-hole cover etc. There are lot of stuff you could add to your diorama.

When scrolling up and down, to do a before and after comparison, you see a much improved scene. You now have told a small story to illustrate a part of war. War is dangerous and is played for keeps.

There is now a human presence even though there are no figures. The sign explains why there is no one visible. The tank with the repositioned gun tube now does not appear to just be parked in the street. The addition of shell casings brings home the point that the tank is there for a reason. The addition of road signs, posters and the newspaper and leaves add visual interest.

I, for one, am glad you didn’t go overboard with the rubble. I imagine that this wall is next to a park/garden. This would give our would-be sniper a better field of fire than down a narrow village street. The use of rubble can look like nothing more than an attempt at set dressing if it looks out of place. I think you have the right amount.

I think it looks much better… Now what do YOU think?

Hi Jeff,

Big improvement, love the newspaper. How about an up-turned helmet in the foreground?

Great stuff.

Big improvememnt, though I would still add more rubble and dirt (dirty up that wall a bit more). Overall, I think you have a decent project going there.

Thanks all for the help.

Alan I think maybe so a German one or American.

I know that Aber makes those fine helmets lines for the German ones.

Hi Jeff...You`ve gotten some really good suggestions here and what you`ve done is great ...I understand completely about no figures as I'm the same way as you ...One thing that's sticking out to me is the orange ID tarp. They weren't used I Normandy till Cobra and the colors were red and yellow ..I don't think orange was used at all in WWII.I may well be proven wrong but I seem to remember an article by Mr. Zaloga on this subject.

You need to put some figures on that thing, otherwise, its just a tank on a base, not a diorama.

I disagree. Dioramas don't need to have figures in them, it's not a requirement and Jeff has mentioned a few times that he doesn't want to add figures. Okay Jeff, I think we got it now...hahaha

I see that your dio is much improved as Gino and others have said. Perhaps a small amount of plants or flowers behind the fence might help too.

I really like the tank and the whole scene though, well done!

cheers;

Bob
