hallo all
I would like to know if the winter reversible parka white/grey green was used by the waffen SS in the winter [febbruary-march] 1943 battle for Kharkov?

Stefano, sorry about that! Here are some stills (not sure if I am infringing anyone's rights here) of them being worn white way out, grey way out, and both ways together. I assume this is what you are thinking of?

hallo Matthew
thanks so much for your replay and especially for the interesting pics
It seems to be a fact this type of camo was already in use at the battle for Kharkov in the winter of 1943
I would like a clarification from you if you dont mind
I believe that this type of parka was called winterabmabzug reversible winter[gray/green / white] parka and it was sometimes used with the fur anorak especially the overtrousers on both white or grey green side with a mixture of soldiers in various assortment of either grey green or white
Are wetalking and seeing the same parka in the pics you have sent me?
thanks very much again for clarify this for me
regards
stefano

Stefano, I believe we are talking about the same thing. It is a little confusing if you refer to it as a parka though - it depends on what you mean by a parka, to me that means something long. I think later, in '44, there is a more parka-like garment introduced in that it was longer, but that was a camouflage print, not grey / white.
What you are seeing in these photos of Kharkov is definitely the reverible white / mouse grey reversible winter suit. I'm not sure where you got your term for this from though - I think it is mispelled as it doesn't mean anything; it should be "winteranzug" which literally means "winter suit".
Frankly though, I am not an expert, and in my opinion you have to go by photos to guide you on what is right and wrong. It appears to me that there may be two different lengths of coat being worn in the photos above, or that could just be how they fit. I agree that sometimes you see photos purporting to be at Kharkov of troops with similar suits but with fur collars as well. I am not clear if there is a type that had fur (clearly they don't all have) or if that is another jacket underneath.
Anyway, my main source is the Brian L Davis book, and what it says is quoed on this page: http://germanmilitariacollectibles.com/blog/2009/07/german-army-reversable-winter-uniform.html

Hi
The Kharkov Parka as its known has been discussed before.
see here for one of the threads my search on Armorama picked up.
RonV, a poster on that thread is Ron Volstad in case you didn't know, well known military artist who paints many of the Dragon box art pictures.

See this review and not only does it show figures depicting the parka but if you click on the rear box art image you can see the colours suggested. I'd find mine to tell you but they are buried in a box in the loft...somewhere
