Hi everyone!
This is my latest project, the infamous KV II -tank. I made the cast effect with Tamiya white putty and acetone but which surfaces were casted in this tank?

Shaping up nicely. The figures look good also.

Hi Pete,

In actual fact there was very little casting on the KV s bolshoiy bashniy as these vehicles were correctly known. The turret sides were fabricated from rolled armor plate.

That said, your model looks to be shaping up nicely. Glad to see that you filled the grooves in the barrel. Be aware though, that the kit barrel is 3mm too short. You should also file off the collar around the muzzle which was not fitted until the introduction of the MT-2 turret later in the year.

Cheers,

Neil

Thank you for the info!
I added the 3mm to the gun pipe and the collar has been removed. I managed to find a cool site that is loaded with info and pics so I guess that all my problems have been solved. Thanks again.

The bolted sides of the mantlet were cast. The rest was rolled steel.
