Yellow, green, or blue, depending on how you want to shift the OD color. Really any color can be used.
With filters, there is no "proper" color, there's no hard and fast rule. It depends on how you want to tint the surface.
Take a test patch of OD, sprayed on a plastic milk jug. Try each of the filter colors you choose on a section, and see what it does to the OD. Filters are totally a judgement call by the artist, the right one is what is pleasing to your eye.
One filter color can also be used over an entire vehicle to tie all the camo together.

Matthew,

i went with a light grey filter made with mig oil color and klean strip oderless mineral spirits and it worked great. i then used the oil dot panel fadeing for the first time and i think i went too heavy with the oils so i had to do some washing up with mineral spirits. when it dried i was pleased with the results. trial & error i suppose.
THX Matthew!

Hi Gary,
You are very welcome and I'm glad you got good results. Don't worry, you never get it perfect the first time. Now you know to go with smaller dots. It's something you have to do to get good at it.
I'm happy I could help.

Gary, I've got a book you need to look at by Steve Zaloga. He talks about how to make U.S. WWII Olive Drab look the way you are wanting it to look. Of course, I'm a little late to the party, now that you are finished with your painting on your M24 - sorry 'bout dat! But, might come in handy for the next one!

I think non-camo colors, especially U.S. and Russian green, are the hardest paint jobs to do and to weather - not as exciting as German camo, and hard to get "just right" so that you have some variation and interest in the paint.

Don't know which book specifically is being referred to, but Zaloga does discuss mixing a "scale" version of OD in his book "Modeling the US Army M4 (76mm) Sherman Medium Tank".

You can also read his assessment of OD in scale modeling
here.

http://www.amazon.com/Modeling-Armor-World-Modelling-Masterclass/dp/1846033985 would be my suggestion, his chapter on olive drab is more complete here than in his otheer writings.
