On my Revell StuG III Ausf F8 I have a decal for StuG brigade 243 It's a knight on horseback anyway the decal is white knight on red background But the pics I've seen on this unit on the panzer gray vehicles are white outline only Did the red background only get applied to the dark yellow vehicles only?

Hi Gen Zod - Below is definitely the insignia & brief reference for StuG Brigade 243. A Brigade was made up of one Stab ( HQ ) with 1 StuG and three zug ( platoon ) with 10 Stug each, total 31 StuG. It might be that with "red " shield was insignia for the entire brigade, but with outline alone each platoon used a different color to identify it ( Ex. White outline was 1st platoon - red outline was 2nd platoon and green outline was 3rd platoon ). This was done in many Wermacht Heer unit's using insignia, and each platoon or battery used a specific color of that insignia or even a different background color as it's identification. This IS NOT to say they all used this method but some did, especially in batteries & platoon's of StuG Abteilung & Brigades. You would have to look deeper in reference on the 243 battle history. That is the best advice and info I can help you with right now GZ. I hope it helps a little.
Stug.Abt 243: Central Russia 42 - Stalingrad (destroyed) - Southern Ukraine 06/44 - the Ardennes in 44 with 5° Armée (Given to the 21° Pz Div) - becomes Heeres Sturmartillerie Brigade (February 45) then Berlin 45.

Hi GZ, your welcome. ...Click on to this link I'm leaving you below, and give it some time to load. When it does, ...scroll down & look for and click again onto the StuG Brigade.243 and you will see 2 other insignia's but there a bit different. I was surprised myself. I always have take a keen interest in StuG's and their unit's, I have a couple of book's solely on StuG Brigade battlefield histories on order, as we speak. ..... If you are as interested as I, I think it will take a bit more digging into the 243. history to really find out the lowdown on why there are 3 different but very similar insignia. Please let me know if you should find any further info on it and I will do the same for you, if your interested still. You can also email me. HERE'S THAT LINK:
