If you mean the recovery vehichle, it's still in service with updated versions. One of these put down the Saddam statue in Baghdad...

It went into service during the Vietnam war, so you could paint it OD overall, 4 color MERDC, 3 color NATO or desert tan.

The original M88 came into use during Vietnam. It is referred to as the old "Gasser" since it had a gasoline powered engine. I don't know when the M88 went out of service and when the M88A1 fully replaced it (most likely the two remained in service together for quite a while). The M88A1 is a diesel powered variant and has been in use ever since I came into the Army 20 years ago in 1983. The M88 was long gone by the 1980s. Even though the M88A2 is now in use, as seen in OIF, the M88A1 still soldiers on. M88A1s are still being remanufactured at Anniston Army Depot in Alabama, I just got a brand new one earlier this year.

I believe it will be serving with the M88A2 for many years to come. The is because the only reason the M88A2 was developed was to be able to safely recover the 63 ton M1A1 and M1A2 tanks. The M88A1 will still be seen in units that will not handle the Abrams series tanks.
