How are Trumpy's new German ISAF figure sets?

Has anyone gotten their hands on either of Trumpeter's new German Bundeswehr ISAF and KSK figure sets? Are they any better than the PMC figures? How are the weapons and equipment?

Both sets look very intriguing, but I'd rather not spend the money if they're as uneven as the PMC sets.

I saw these in person at my local hobby shop and they are on par with the security team guys (in my opinion, at least, and there was a link with those security team guys in an in-progress build on this site somewhere...) which to me, means so so. Great idea, never done before to the best of my recollection; wish they would do in resin, but don't hold your breath.

If anything, the box art gives you great reference for German ISAF guys. Personally, I would like to see them built up. Upon first look, they look a tad chunky and stout/short, almost if the anatomy is a bit off. I might buy them for parts but that's your call, of course.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi,

try this link: http://www.modellboard.net/index.php?topic=31882.0
You can see a detailed view of one of the G36 rifles and one of the Figures in this set. I am a little disappointed about the quality. The PMC Figures where better in my opinon.

Greetings

Thanks Stefan for the link.

That German ISAF figure looks terrible. I am surprise (and disappointed) that Trumpeter would let such poorly sculpted/molded figures to go into production in this day and age.

Yeah, I'm also disappointed. I was really hoping these would be on a par with their recent US Army figure releases. The G36 looks great, however, so I'll probably consider getting the set for the weapons.

Damn! That figure shown in that link looks absolutely horrible. What on earth were the Trumpeter people thinking when they approved releasing such a bad figure

Hi Guys,
I agree with you about the quality. It`s obviously harder to sculpt figures that doing tanks and truck on a CAD/CAM. You can simply throw away the helmets and also use Hornet or oher AM heads instead of the kits ones. The biggest disappointment for me was the MP7, which is only 85 % of the real weapon!
On the other hand, how long did take for DRAGON to get to GEN2 figures?

When i see what Masterbox or Tristar create in short time than Trumpeter should very fast improve their quality or they should stop producing Figures and make that what they can - AFV Models. I was very pleased as i see the first images of this set and the KSK one but now i think it´s waste of moneyy to buy them. It´s not only the heads but also the hole body proportions are bad. It´s a step backward to the beginnings. Their weapon sets are really great but also they do something illogical and false if you look closer to them. They put the sprue with the weapon add ons in nearly all sets they have. I think it would be better to put some more weapons in it than every time the same add on which are not always useable. When you look at the grenade luncher for example it´s a pitty that the trigger frame is cut away and i think only with a lot work you can put it under the weapon. The ideas are good but delicate to use. I had great hopes after the PMC sets that the Quality is getting better and better but now they should stop the work.

Fortunately, as I have a direct line to Trumpeter, i'll be mailing them later to pass on these concerns. Frankly, they could do a LOT better. Perhaps the way forward is the approach taken by Bronco - to get MiniArt to do their figures for them and concentrate on the 'Heavy Metal'.

I'll keep you posted.

I have no idea how Trump does their figures, but I've seen the masters from Dragon, and those things are HUGE, like over 12 inch tall sculpts, that they scan to make those itty bitty figs in 1/35. They can sure take some lessons from the guys down the road at DML...

It should also be noted that the WB sprue with the sights and grenade launchers could not be used for German weapons since the bundeswehr has their own range of red dot sights and other accessories.

Well, poop. I was going to pick up one of these sets and perhaps still will for the G-36 but that might be one of the worst figures I've seen in a very long time. Honestly, my first thought was it had to be a slapped together reference pattern or something. We're routinely seeing new scuplts for 1/48 figures that are vastly better then this.

I'm honestly surprised they'd release something this bad.

I have to agree with most of the others-the figures are not very good but the weapons might be salvageable; but I do not know much on the current rifles used by the German Army. Excellent idea and subject but poor execution. I was hoping to at least use some arms and "boonie" hats to perhaps modify some of Accurate Armour's excellent figures recently released for Iraq/Afghanistan, but I doubt I will be able to do this. Nice try, but....

Did Trumpeter release other weapons sets yet besides the M-16 Series?
