I am currently working on Tamiya's M4A3 (105). Looking at my reference photos, it seems there is a metal plate on either side of the exhaust deflector inboard of the idler wheels. My guess is that it is a mud guard/deflector plate. Unfortunately most photos don't show this very clearly. (tanks are more photogenic from the front or side)
Two questions:
1.Does anyone know of a clear photo or line drawing that would help me add these plates?
2. Were these plates factory equipment or field modifications?

Thanks in advance

v/r,
Cob

Rather than type in my explaination here, just go HERE besides, Mike Canaday does a better job describing than I could.

Thank You Sir,
That is exactly what I was looking for. I specifically was interested in the rear sand shield support and the plate between the rear hull plate overhang and the lower hull rear, but after looking at what Mike did, I might just rebuild the whole peice.
Thanks again,
v/r,
Cob
