I'm building Dragon's tT4-85 1/72nd kit, and the turret has decal options that say "червонец", or chernovits - which was the currency used outside of the USSR at the time. What would be the significance for the crew to paint it on their tank?

The proper translation is: Chervonits (B's are v's in Cyrillic). As to why, I haven't a clue.

hi alex, that is a most interesting because almost every soviet tank slogan i have ever seen is either some type of patriotic declaration or usually was some accredation for who may have made donations so that the tank could have been manufactured. but as a long time eastern front enthusiast i have seen this decal in kits for almost 30 years. i wonder could it possibly be a literal notation as if the tank was named money as it could be relied upon in action.

russian also called chervonetz a special card in a cardgame...

you can interpret the slogan chervonetz on tanks as something like : "lucky one" or kind of clever move or good card in the cardgame..that would mean something like "take that!"

Ok, in my opinion червонец is ukrainian meaning red, so probobly
crew trying to say that they are from Red (Soviet) Ukraine?
also 10 rubles in old Russia is in red color too.
