I need to add straps, or slings, to 1/35 rifles, submachine guns, binoculars, satchels, etc. I have found some small chain links that serve well for the buckles and hardware, but the straps themselves has defeated me. Any tips from you smart, resourceful Armorama people?

I have used with good results paper ( don't know any details, it was a piece of glossy paper that came with a figure set ). I cut it to size, paint it and glue it in place. I tried also to cut the straps from PE left overs but I had problems bending it and getting it to sit right so I returned to paper. Good luck.

I recently used the foil that comes on the top of a yogurt cup.
Something like this: http://www.dietsinreview.com/diet_column/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/yogurt-cup.jpg
It's basically a thicker aluminum foil. Have also used a piece of index card I cut up for a jerry can strap.

I recently used ordinary printing paper. I made it moist with a diluted white glue and glued it in place afterwards.
I also used pe leftovers. These are easier to handle after heating them thoroughy.

Wine bottle foil. Very easily cut, holds its shape well, can be made to drape realistically, can even be rolled ot to be thinner than it starts out as, easily primed and painted, attaches with super glue.

I also use printer paper for my slings, straps, etc. I have always been happy with the results.
If you go to Historicus Forma and look at my blog for the "Over The Top" campaign you can see how I used printer paper for detailing and scratch-building.

I use thin lead foil either store bought or wine cap foil. Just cut to width and double the leagnth to bend back for the adjustment eccess. Then I add the locking slide piece ( the small moveable band to take out the slack ) on each end. Use small guage wire for the attatchment points into an oval at each end. I usually just bend it around the end of tweezers. Bend to your desired shape, prime, paint and glue.

All this talk about lead foil made me crack open a bottle of Buffalo Trace to get the lead foil off of it so I can try it out tomorrow. Thanks Guys.

I just tried to do slings for the first time, and used a strip of pe from a leftover sheet, and I'm extremely pleased with the results

You dont actually have to open the bottle to get your hands on the foil.
Cheers
