Thanks guys, I think I found my solution. I'm going to cut the mount of, sand it down, and drill a set of mounting holes in it and just convince the track to "sag" at that point. I just hope that nothing else gets damaged or lost on this kit. I swear it is the softest plastic that I have ever worked with...

Damn, only two days.. and I just faced a new setback. My HU49 flat cote tin had changed into thick mixture, which reguired minutes of stir and lots of thinner to make it usable. So I used it for surfaces, which are not visible in most of pics or will get pigment treatment later.
Tomorrow I have to go to my LHS and buy new, fresh one for upper hull and turret. I have a feeling, that my KV will fall down just before finish line or it will be finished with result not my likeing...
Plus working with my son´s soccer team and getting ready to move to our next apartment haven´t helped at all.

Thanks to all those who have finished so far, but there are a few others who are very close to finishing. Would anyone object to another extension?
Posted: Sunday, June 12, 2011 - 01:23 AM UTC
Warren you have a couple of choices you could have another extension, or you could award a ribbon to those who are nearly finished on the understanding that a finished KV will posted in X amount of time. I do not mind what you do as it is your campaign.

I fear that I have been a victim of life's "curve-balls" and my build had languished for more time than I would have liked. I have spent more time climbing ladders and on the roof than at the workbench trying to keep a storm damaged area water tight.
We finally got some sunny and calm weather Friday afternoon so I got a few minutes here and there to work on the SU. The first step was to begin distressing the white decals with various washes of acrylic and then more Future mixed with Tamiya Flat Base. My next step was to pick out subtle details (highlighting and shadowing) with greys, browns and tans. Even with acrylics it's a slow process as there is a need to wait for each layer to dry. Not there yet but it's progressing.
I am able to devote a few hours to this project today so with some luck I might get this one finished (fingers crossed that the weather holds).
Some great progress by several over the last few pages. My only regret is that I haven't been around to comment more regularly.
@Bob R. - Very interesting and innovative way of making your mud. I like the writing/slogan on the turret. I believe the last word is "Russia" from my limited knowledge of the language.
@Nito74 - John, you have captured the typical blandness of the Soviet vehicles of the era.
@Madmax5510 - Nice job on your KV-220 and another equally bland example of Soviet armour. You have definitely put me to shame with the speed and finishing of your builds.
@Warreni - With so many people so close to finishing, I have no objection to some sort of minor accommodation to allow them to complete their builds. I ran into a similar issue with my BB Campaign and as leader, it is totally your call. I am at this point shooting for having the SU pretty much complete by this evening my time (think that you are 14+ hours ahead of my location time wise). Back to work for me!
Cheers,
Jan

I didn't realize there were so many here who were close to finishing but not quite there yet. I would like to see everyone still here get a chance to finish even if I don't make it myself.

Thanks Jeremy. They started the preliminaries for the "Panzer Roof" last week but the bad weather has all the roofing contractors falling behind. The actual steel sections arrived but...
Okay, being going pretty well straight at it since my last post. SU-152 #33 is getting there.
While parts of it are drying I sprayed the other SU with varying shades of the Russian green. They show better with the Mk 1 Eyeball. Also started the preliminary muddying up of the suspension and preliminary weathering. It's Sunday at 3:30 PM as I write this but I don't see the second being ready in time. I try to concentrate on the #33 but it still might be tomorrow before I am happy with it.
Good luck to all us stragglers!
Cheers,
Jan

Making a tank look dirty is purely optional. It is the construction and painting that matter most. The appearance of a tank varies all the time from nice and clean to looking like it hasn't been washed for years.
Let's see what happens tomorrow.
Keep at it guys and gals.

Hi All here's my finished Tamiya 1/48 Russian KV 1, lightly weathered, could only do a small amount of weathering as my Mum has just been admitted to hospital, nothing serious, just needs to have some tests,
Thanks for a great Campaign, I will submit my pics in the gallery.

Thanks Jeremy, on both counts, hopefully it'll be a short stay for her.
Work and the obvious is gonna keep me away from the bench for atleast the rest of the week, then it's onto the next campaign......

I've now posted my pictures in the campaign gallery. Thanks Warren for the great campaign and for the 2 week extension. I think I'll go back to my usual scale 1/35 for a while, I've just done 2 consecutive builds in 48th scale, and I've enjoyed them very much, it'll be nice to get back to slightly larger components, the eyes are getting old.......... probably see you all in a campaign very soon. Great work everyone......

I didn't think that I'd make it but with the help of my SWMBO (my resident artist) I managed to complete the #33 early this afternoon. Posted a couple of pictures in the campaign gallery. Using Delta Ceramcoat (inexpensive acrylics) and instruction from my spouse I did the final accenting and weathering. My "animal killer" is now ready to hunt and blow the turrets off any Tiger or Panther that gets in its path.
A big thanks to Warren for a fine campaign and for the extension. I didn't think that I would need it but as it turned out, it was truly appreciated.
@Jason - Hope that your mother's results are positive. Now since you have experienced 1/48 scale, perhaps it's time to see an optometrist and experience the joys of 1/72!
Cheers,
Jan

As promised...
KV-1 - Spring of 1942
Mainly OOB - as mentioned, I used Neil Stokes' reciped from 4B0 to ensure some accuracy. Exhaust are Tiger Resin, Tow cable is aftermarket replacement for the Trumpeter part. Weathered using Tamiya Earth and a mix of Mig Pigment Russian Earth and Brick Dust.
Will add a pic to the gallery, but as far as I'm concerned, this one is done!
