No I hadn't Jeremy. I don't think many people have made up their minds yet.
I will start off by saying I can build any of the Trumpeter releases EXCEPT the German liveried ones.. Somehow it just doesn't look right having a black cross instead of a Red or White star! An German slogans suck, 'Strength through Joy' indeed!
Hi Warren,
Are you now saying that beutes' are out? I remember getting your ok on this prior to enlistment.
Cheers,
Tat

Kimmo: Three cheers for confusion!! Seriously just go with the best available knowledge to us that's out there. What I'm finding over all the research that I've been doing for various subjects is that there isn't enough information out there, and what often happens is that what has been accepted as fact for a long time is often proven to not be as seen through "new" evidence that has made it's way back into the light.
Tat: By all means the beutepanzer KV's are in, Warren and I were just saying that we prefer them in Soviet livery
Darren: Sounds awesome! Any pics of the real thing that you could share with us?

Oh boy, Darren! You surely didnīt choose the easiest target for the campaign. Not even all finnish modelers want to build that thing because the difficulty of all technical details and that colour scheme.
Hereīs a teaser for you, Darren, made by well known finnish modeler.

Thank you Kimmo as it helps me obtain some details I would have had to take best guess at. Does anyone know of any walk arounds of the real thing?

Well it is good to try something from left field once in a while.
Looking at pictures of that KV does the barrel look short as if it is in full recoil?

I don't know, I thought that the ones in all of the KV-1 kits looked pretty short too. I don't know if this means it's correct, or if it's another situation that the Jagdtiger kits suffered for many years.

Nope.. the 76.2mm gun used in KVs and T-34s was not very long at all compared to later versions.

Darren..
It all comes down to what YOU thinks looks right. It is all supposed to be fun after all. If you think they look a bit short then have a go at lengthening them. I have a few metal barrels for these guns and they all look a bit short. I suppose it is just what we are used to. If you are not 100% happy with the barrel supplied in the kit there are many after-market barrels available. There are many good websites out there with lots of info about KV-1s and -2s. I did not realise they built so few of the -2s.
Regards
Warren

Oh good then -- I saw Jeremy's reply as well. Thanks both for the clarifications! For a moment there I thought the rules have changed. The Finnish KVs seem a good option to consider as well. Anyways still a long wait ahead. Cheers -- Tat

Hi Darren!
Just changed messages with a fellow modeler, which I know, from nearby about this issue of barrel lenght. Best thing is, that heīs a member in a guild, which maintence the tanks in Parola Armoured museum and heīs reply was, that barrel is really that short in real life. The gun in KV-1E has less power than other KVīs with longer barrel and itīs barrel is also shorter.
Hopefully this cleares the way for your project.

Thank you as well Kimmo; I was looking at the pictures and some angles made the gun look very short which lead me to believe that perhaps the gun was not fully forward. Would your mate be able to tell you how long the barrel is from the mantlet please and possibly supply a close up of the barrel.

I can try but I canīt promise anything, sorry. But on the other hand, I think the kitīs barrel is in right length.

Thank you Kimmo as your earlier post made me think it was a shorter barrel than any of the other KV series.

That is not that difficult as I will just mask with bluetack (in the USA I believe silly putty is a close product), I will admit that doing the Finnish crosses has me thinking about how I am going to tackle a stencil for it.

Hi Darren.
Archer has a dry-transfer set, which includes finnish crosses for KV. Plus I think, you could use crosses from Echelon finnish-Sturmi decal set.
