Just wondering if they are actually being used operationally yet?
Read heaps of articles about the transition from Green to Tan, but no pics of 'em in combat, just the few pics of the veichle at Qatar.

Cheers

The only tan ones I saw in 09 were after a serious dust storm. There's no point in painting them tan. They might as well be hot pink, because after pope glass, slat, EFP skirts, and sniper screens, they're the size of a house. We just got ours back from the depot, and they were repainted green.

A long shot i know but i needed to fire it.

Every once in a while I pass through Ft. Lewis on the way to more exotic locations and stop by the Stryker Refit Facility to see what's new. While there was a photo floating around recently of a tan Stryker, there are no plans for them to be painted tan in the future. What is done at the unit level is up to the unit commander.

As for the screens, here are a few shots:

I was at Ft. Leonard Wood over the last 8 days. I saw a straight Engineer Stryker in desert sand and I saw an Engineer Stryker with slat armor that was desert sand color also.

So, they are definitely out there. I'm going back to Ft. Leonard Wood for about 21 days in July and August. I'm going to try to get some pictures.

Hey Guys
Is it my obsessive mind or not but is this stryker a sandy tan paint color or is it the way the sun is shining on it?

Brent some picys would be neat.
Cheers

There is a good chance that this is just the green scheme under a nice coat of Afghan dust... (in combination with the light)

Some of the shots of the Dutch PzH2000's in Afghanistan also make segments look as if they are painted tan, while in fact it is dust and mudd on the vehicle... and that is for a vehicle that moves only short distances... Same goes for the Dutch YPR's... on occasion they also look as if they are painted tan, even though upon closer inspection it is green under a coat of dust and mudd (the latter possibly slapped on on purpose).

Perhaps a clue is the area around the rear door (where the door slots in), which still looks painted green to me, when trying to enlarge the picture).

Oh they're out there all right. But as I said, the refit facility has no plans to repaint any of them in sand, and are in fact redoing all returning Strykers in green. Currently the Army is paying $55 million to have all of them sent to Ft. Lewis from Anniston Depot for refitting. (a lot of interresting new developments there by the way) So better photograph those tan ones while you can.

Funny thing about the refit, our guy who does the MITAS work on the ATGM is based in Ft Lewis and they are having him go to Anniston to do our part there instead of doing it at Ft Lewis. I guess the Army likes paying for the travel and such, got me.

Sounds like a TRADOC thing as there are two Stryker Fire Support Vehicles in the school lot here at Ft Sill. Unfortunately there are none that are wrapped in Slat armor.

It may actually be more cost effective for him to go Anniston. They're parked so closely together at Lewis you can barely walk between them. Plus, there are only a few covered bays there, and you probably know what the weather is like there this time of year.
Too bad the per diem rate was only $49 last time I was instructing in Alabama.

When you're fighting a mostly urban insurgency, vehicle camoflage is pretty irrelevant. The bad guys are not using long-range weapons and unless you have an invisibility field hiding a armored vehicle in a city neighborhood is pretty tough.
