Hi all, it has been a long time since I posted any of my rusty tanks here, so I thought I'd show you what I'm working on at the moment.
I 'm painting this model to show a rusty tank that is sitting on the back lot of a museum somewhere.

I'll post some pics again when the painting continues on this rusty Sherman.

If I may be so bold, I think that if you punch a few holes in it, you have a great range target,

Rob, I did not mean to take away from your wonderful work. I reread my post and I apologize. Your technique and abilities are just outstanding. I was hoping to contribute to your original post with another view of the effects of the elements on armor. So I hope I did not offend that was not my intent.

Thank you all for taking the time to check out my latest project, and for leaving your comments.
@ Timothy, no problem, I knew what you meant, and thanks for adding the pics, really cool. Wish I could stumble across some rusty old tanks. Right now I'll settle for any rusty equipment. I'm planning on doing some converted tanks to farm tractors, and maybe a rusty old crane. Thanks again.

Hi Rob this is another great project, I had a question though. On the pics shown above how did you do the rusty chunks? Is this from the hairspray method or done by brush?

Briliant! It's the first time I see your work and this is love at first sight. One wouldn't say it's model and not real thing.

Sorry for the late reply, and thank you for the kind feedback, it is much appreciated.
@ Jon F, The rust areas are from the hairspray technique. I then added some light rust staining to the surrounding paint using oil paints. the staining can also be done using MIG rust effects which works great. I wanted to try the oils on this model to compare the difference. Jim Rae posted a link to my site, and there you can see the painting stages of this and other models.
No new up date since there hasn't been much done so far. I'm working on the tracks and also will redo some of turret paint since I'm not too happy with the results so far.
I'm also working on a Panther at the same time so things are going slow at the moment. I will post new pics soon.

Thanks Jeff And Dan, glad you like the Sherman. Work on this one has slowed mainly because I needed a break from Shermans, and a base for the model needs to be done. I will post some pics when I get back to this model.

Well I managed to get started on the base, just something small and simple, enough to display the model. I have been wanting to do some type of fence for some time now, and this was the perfect time to give it a go.
I have started to add some vegetation around the fence area, and am still deciding on what else to add to the base.

There is still some weathering to do on the tank to blend it in with the base using pigments. Final pics should be coming up this weekend.

My gob is well and truly smacked. My gast totally flabbered.
Awesome job - probably THE best model of a rusty wreck I've EVER seen (and I've seen a few good 'uns).
