Does anyone have photos or drawings of this thing? I have a HEMTT laying around and I've always wanted to do something fancy with it, or at least try

Just take a look at Primeportal.

and svsm.org : http://svsm.org/gallery/HEMTT?page=1

In both cases the pictured vehicle is a M984E1 (aka M984A1 : the M984E1 and M984A1 are the same vehicle. Army pubs say, "All references to M984E1 shall be interpreted as the M984A1 model) but the pics should be OK for a A2 : -A2 variant HEMTTs are equipped with an electronically controlled, turbocharged diesel engine. These models also use a push button automatic transmission with one reverse speed and five forward speeds but from the outside they should look identical IMHO...

Here's a side view of the M984A2 :

You know, one of the German resin companies makes a conversion for the Italeri HEMMT, producing the wrecker version. Slips my mind which one at the moment, maybe Perfect Scale Modellbau?

I'm pretty sure it is Hobbyfan that makes the conversion.

Yep! And as another alternative, MR Modellbau also makes an M984A1 conversion for the Italeri kit. There is an article in the April 2010 Scale Military Modeller magazine that covers such a conversion. Based on my "research" of prices, I can only imagine that the MR will be cheaper than the Hobbyfan kit. HTH

If you want to do something different, try your hand at a Polish HEMMT Wrecker. Uparmored cabs and full of spare parts. They pulled my ass out more than once, great trucks and that big ass Polish flag they paint on everything breaks up the drab flat sand color.
