Hi guys. I know this issue has been discussed many times here, but I'll just ask the question. Here we go. So far, I was using Tamiya acrylics for airbrushing, but I am thinking to switch to enamels, Humbrol probably. What can I use to thin Humbrol, beside their thinner, something that will yeld good results, doesn't smell so bad and is not so expensive (too many requirements, I know)? Also, from where I can get the thinner of choice? Thank you in advance for your help.

Personally, I subscribe to using the thinner suggested by the manufacturer, but I have a friend who swears by thinning with generic Lacquer Thinner, which you can pick up at any hardware store. He says it’s much less expensive, and dries faster. I’ve seen his work, and it looks great to me. You may want to experiment with it.

Hey, Sebastian, long time no see, er, ah, type. LOL
You can spend $5 for a 16 ounce can of Testor's Airbrush thinner or you can spend a dollar on a gallon of thinner from the hardware store. Dealer's choice.
I tried the AB thinner when I got a can in a lot of hobby paint supplies at a yard sale. I see no difference in performance, only in price. I've used generic thinner to thin Testors little bottles, ModelMaster enamel and metalizer, Humbrol, Floquil and tube oils.

I've been an enamel guy since I started. I use ordinary paint thinner that can be bought in any hardware shop. It is about 1.5 Liters.

I use Model Master Enamels, and I thin mine with Mineral Spirits. I haven't had a problm yet.
Plus you can get a huge metal jug of it for 2 bucks at the hardware store.
