Hello Guys!

Would like to build a couple of Up-Armored HUMVEES. Looking to build a Special Forces unit, as well as a "fastback" woth the Ma-Deuce on top with the shields around it (don't know the name for this - new to modern armor).

What's the best Humvee kit out there, as well as the upgrades for the Up-Armor?

Also, stoopid question... how does the Anti-IED apparatus work, if anyone know? Magnetic field or something RF? IS this a separate kit that can be purchased?

Also, anything out there for IDF HUMVEES?

Sorry for the questions.

Thanks!

The best Humvee kits are the Tamiya ones, they depict early vehicles from the 1990's. (Although they lack the 1990's SINGCARS radio sets.) Blast models makes some early OIF updates, and Legend makes more current armor updates. The latter are expensive, but very good. Proart models makes a SF Humvee set.

Have a look here:

Concord "Marines on the Ground (1)", shows the Tamiya Humvee with TOW launcher used. All you'll need to add are some rucksacks to the rear side windows, a SINGCARS radio set (from Proart models) and new tires in the agressive pattern.

Search the forum here, as there are some great threads on the subject.

Enjoy.

Hi Jorge
There is actually a campaign on Humvees at the moment. Some great builds and lots of useful info: Humming Along Campaign

You should find what you're looking for somewhere in there as well as the links others have given.

On the IDF Humvees, again Legend do some sets. I'm about to start my first converting a Tamiya TOW bas kit to the Ledgend IDF TOW

Whatever you go for, Humvee's are addictive...there are just so many variants.

Good Luck,
Sean

For an SF GMV, Pro Art's conversion is very nice. However, Legend is about to release their version, with tons of PE for the ammo and equipment storage bins. Plus, theirs will have the ceramic seats not found in any other kit. Later they will release a "late" GMV with A/C unit, radiator shield and other small changes. Note that BOTH will have the power inverter found under the roof.

For an SF M1114 or M1151, either of Legend's conversions are great, and their M1114 is light years ahead of the one by Mig.

Legend also has released their own Rhino. I've built one and have a few in the stash. They're also releasing one specifically for the M1117.
I cannot comment on Blast's Rhino, but the Legend version has the Eduard beat. The Rhino frame is made from 2x4's, and looks much more so in Legend's resin Rhino than the Eduard PE one.

Externally, SF gun trucks, for the most part, do not carry Rhinos, Dukes, or any type of rollers. (so you can save a few bucks there) Speed is security, a concept that works with two and three vehicle patrols, not so much with Big Army's ponderous convoys.

Oh, by the way, I produce a Special Forces HMMWV CD that shows USSF, Iraqi, and Slovenian SF HMMWV's, plus Marine Special Ops GMV's as well.
