Hi all,
Does anyone have a technique for painting figures with acrylic paint, in particular Gunze aqueoes hobby color?
I am using Gunze to paint a Modern Russian tank crew. I stripped the paint off twice already because the effect wasn't at all convincing.
These are the steps I took:
1. Apply the base colors
2. Cut in around the hairline, collar line, cuff lines etc. with thinned brown paint.
2. Darken the base colours and paint it into the creases.
3. Lighten the base color and dry brush for highlight.
I use water for thinner and clean brushes in methylated spirits.
The problem is that it seems that Gunze doesn't drybrush well. The paint dries too quickly and deposits to heavily leaving brush marks on what was previously a nice even coat. I have tried thinning them with water, methylated spirits and tamyia acrylic thinner and none seem to help. Because they dry so quick there is also no chance to blend colors to create transitions in shade.
I do want to keep using acrylics if I can help it rather than switch to enamels and oils.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
