Hi Everyone - thank you very much for the feedback thus far. I am trying to figure out the best way to make trees. I have thouroughly enjoyed looking at others works and learning and giving my opinion or sharing my experice when asked.

Im attaching here the newest palm. What do you think about he technique/color. I did this for 2 WEEKS! Is it better/worse than my other? Any suggestions. I made it smaller, and this is all hand done and painted - foloowing directions of Chas Young and others here.

Thanks!

David

I like both :-)
I am not going to check palm references now, but both look good IMO, it all depends a bit now on the quality of the rest of your dio.

If this will be completely accurate you need to choose the most accurate palm to your eyes.

I know that this was of no great help to you ! LOL

Cheers
Claude

Fantastic! It dominates the atmosphere, and draws so many more associations across the scene--It opens the mind to things bigger than mere soldiers. Very good to see it taller than the wall. The brown strings hanging out of the flourish of green gives the tree an authority, and presence, to be respected. Keep making more.

Hey there David,

Sorry I could not answer your message earlier, I hope it isn't too late.

The palm you have made looks great! In answer to your question, yes I wrapped several layers of tissue paper around the string and trunk as to hide the obvious texture of the string, just leaving the slightly raised rings.

Yes, I then did a "wash" of the trunk with dark greys and browns, thinned so that the paint flows into the gaps.

My palm I made for the feature is far from perfect and it is only one of the many hundreds of palm species that exist. Hoping to do some more experimenting with palms soon (for pacific diorama).
