So, what are a few key visual differences I should look for when I'm trying to figure out if a HMMWV is a M1151 vs. M1114? TIA and

The most noticable is that M1151s have A/C vent grills above both rear tires on the lower body, not on the right side of the angled roof section like the M1114. The rest of the differences are in the way the armor roof and hatchback are made. The M1151 has more angular, beefier looking armor.

Technically, the M1151, M1152, and M1165 were to simply be upgrades of the M1025A2 and M1123 (which could be configured as a 2- or 4-door) to the ECV series chassis (which first appeared on the M1113, the replacement for the M1097A2).

At base, the M1151 was to have the same cross pattern doors as the M1025A2, with the most basic of "armor," while the M1152 and M1165 would have the unarmored doors found previously on the M1123 and M1097A2. However, since the majority of these vehicles have gone to the "front" they have received the various armor packages. I'm not sure I've seen any pictures of them in their base configurations as outlined in the manual.

Additionally, A1 variants were developed for the M1151, M1152, and M1167 which are described as "Integrated Armor Protection/Armor Ready." The IAP kit is a combination rocker panel and floor kit, along with protection for the fuel tank I believe, very similar to the Frag 1-3 kits (not counting whichever one of these kits was the armored windshield, which I can't remember off the top of my head). This would be most noticeable underneath and along the rocker panels.

The "Armor Ready" part is in reference to the US Army's new Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS), which outlines a basic level of armor (A-kit), plus an easily attachable up-armor "B-kit." The B-kit for the A1s consists of so-called "perimeter armor," which is similar to the Up-Armored level of protection found on the M1114/M1116 at base. The doors and c-pillar are actually different looking at the diagrams found in the manual. Externally, however, the doors should look basically the same. All of these vehicles can also of course be fitted with the Frag 5 doors and Frag 7 roof. With all the armor mounted its probably difficult to distinguish M1114s and M1151/A1s. At least this is what I have currently been able to discern, looking back at the manual, the perimeter armor might be included in the A-Kit on the A1s. Its not entirely clear.

On a side note, the ECV TOW carrier, the M1167 has the perimeter armor installed as standard.

This looks like an M1151A1 from the rocker panels. It appears to only have the IAP installed. Thanks for posting this picture, its the first I've seen with the cross doors. I had also forgotten about the vent.

Thanks Gino and Joe. The AC vent is a pretty easy thing to pick out...

Another relatively easy difference to look out for is the front windscreen-on the M1114 the plate between the two windscreens is flat:

on the M1151 its different:

Notice as well the rounded edge of the roof on the m1114 vs the angled edge on the M1151

That's the B-Kit (or possibly Frag 7) roof, not the standard M1151 roof. It also the B-Kit armored windshield, which is interesting in that its different from the M1114 one. The doors are the Frag 5 doors instead of the B-Kit doors.

Another shot of the M1151A1 on Prime Portal showing the basic configuration. I'm still not sure what to make of the new clamshell, which also isn't noted in the tech manual. It does appear to be standard to the M1151A1 at least.
