Well, I'm a little bit uneasy to post my works here in Armorama, due the excellent projects that I used to see.

But this project was something that I always wanted to do - Spanish Civil War dioramas are far to be a common topic!

This is a scene in the Aragon front, May of 1937, an anarchist militia trench.

Comments are very welcome!

Best regards!

Hi Igor, Dont know much about the subject but that looks like some real nice work you did there.
Don't worry about people being to critical of your work, its better then mine, and I still post my stuff. Hopefully that a critical person will give me some pointers to help me improve.

Hi Igor,
congrats for this very unusal theme. I like see my country represented here. These guys looks perfect as from anarchist tradeunion (CNT)militia. The no deep trench and sandbags are very real.May be the flag pole is too big(IMHO)more frecuent is take a branch from a tree for this purposse.
Hope see more dios about Spanish Civil war

cheers

Yo Igor,

Nice subject! We need more like such story's.

Nice litlle story...some nice detail you have added.

Maybe you could dig the trench deeper...and the sides of the base on the place where the trench i, cut this two pieces of wood away...so the trenches sides will be open.

Maybe you can also put sort of stand behind the wall, it's stand now a litlle fragile... wooden construction can do the trick.

Nice work, keep up.

Well I rather like that one.
Personally Nico i don't like trenches deeper than that, because if you do you have to raise the diorama base, and this is never an effect I find to satisfying (yours with your plane is just at an okay depth).
What I really like about this diorama is the way the action is off centred and yet manages to get a good balance. I like the colours too.
What I think could have been better is the parallel lines and the fact that there are a lot of secondary actions which is never something i find satisfying in a diorama. And yet it somewhat reinforce the feeling of boredom that you might feel in a trench.

All in all this is a really nice effort and I hope to see more from you Igor

No need to be worried. Overall it's a good diorama. In general your techniques are good, composition is solid.
If you consider the feedback you've gotten already it's just about small things.

Keep on building.

Igor,
I think you did a great job with this one....nicely done. As far as ways to improve your next (or this one)I would suggest adding washes and a little dry brushing to your ground work to add variation to it's color and break up the monotone. For example, maybe making the trench a little darker in tone to suggest earth that is a little more moist or freshly dug up. just my 2 cents.

Hi, I love the action going on in here. You get drawn to what the figures are doing. Great work!

Bom Dia Igor , I think your dio is very nicely done. I really like the figure in the brown vest, he really looks concerned or in deep thought....Vince

Very nice job Igor. Very interesting and different subject. Try not to worry so much about posting your pictures. Most of us who will comment on them will compliment your strongpoints and try to help you with constructive criticism. Those who would ridicule are not worth paying attention to. Thank you for posting and keep up the good work......Al

Thanks a lot guys! I had some bad experiences in other forums around here, with people that usually doesn't build nothing and have a lot of trash talk about your work...
|:(

@Sal: thanks! But I have a different opinion about your works!

@blockhaus: Thanks! I have a lot of interest in the Spanish Civil War, and I want to do some other dios about it. I'm always thinking about a dio about the Siege of Alcazar. Thanks for the advise about the pole!

@Nico: very nice comment about the wall! I gonna do something about it! Thanks a lot!

@Nicolas: thanks! and about the parallel line, well... I'll admit, this work is for a GB, I promise myself to do something small and quick, so I was really lazy in this point. Won't happen again, 'cuz I didn't like it, either.

@Scott: thanks a lot! It's always nice to get a constructive feedback!

@Art: actually, I did some washes and dry-brushing in the groundwork, but perhaps not that heavy. I gonna improve this next time. Thanks!

@Greg: Thanks a lot! It's kinda tricky build a dio without veihcles, just figures, and get a nice scene. Guess I'm on the right track. Thanks!

@Vince: thanks a lot! Do you speak portuguese, or just google it?

@Alfred: thanks a lot!

I'm working in a wartime baseball diorama, something like a "figure coversion" large scale test. I'll try to post it soon.

Best regards!

Hi Igor. You have nothing to worry about. This dio makes a great first impression ... layout and composition are excellent, and the brick and sandbag barrier are very believable. Theres always somethings people will nit-pick a bit over, as modelling has a lot to do with personal taste ... even the better known modellers get this. Kudos for showing your work, and hopefully we´ll see more of it.

I love that you are actualy putting some effort into such a neglected, but important war. myself, ive always wanted to build a diorama of the sole Dc 1 that crashed in spain after the civil war.apparently, parts of it were used to carry some statue or somthing for a church. that would make a dio.

Hello Erik,

thanks for your interest in the history of my country. This history about DC 1that have a accident short before SCW without victims, have a little error, over the years it´s explained that part of these DC1 was used for do the trone of "Virgen de la Esperanza"(Madonna of Hope)of Malaga. In fact for this trone was used the material from a JU-52 that have accident in Melilla in 1944 (without victims).

Hola Igor,

A nice diorama, well compossed. The Aragon was a quiet front before Ebro battle.

The two sides changed cigarretes, press and others dayly items, each one in her trench, barricades or strong points.

I like it,the first winds of a near World War.

Cheers from the Sunny Spain!.

Tom
