Nice work, and a nice looking model.
How was the kit as far as overall fit? Did it need a lot of filling and sanding? Any major problems you encountered?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of getting one.. and T-80 as well.
Cheers
Hisham
The Zvezda T-72 and T-80 kits are Dragon/DML molds dating from 1989, when the Soviet Union was still in business, and all things military were still top secret, so the kits had to be based on drawings derived from long distance photos. Virtually all dimensions and details are wrong, to one extent or another, and it was Dragon's bad luck that the end of the Cold War allowed closer examination of the actual equipment right after the kits were released. Dragon opted to ditch their Cold War Soviet molds, rather than try to correct or update them, which is why they now turn up in Zvezda or Revell-Germany boxes.
Tamiya's T-72 is much better, though it depicts a limited-production, "oddball" variant built for the East German Army. It needs either an earlier hull or a later turret to depict the more common models.
Skif's T-80 kits are slightly more accurate than the Dragon/Zvezda versions, but Skif's kits are still generally poor compared to other manufacturers (there are resin corrections available for the T-80, but they are expensive).
