Hi at all,
i want to build some Australien or british Figures in jungle fatigues for Borneo, Malaysia in the 1960īs. I have scan these great color plates from Kevin Lyles from the very good Osprey Men at Arms 431-Britainīs Secret War book. to show you what kind of Figures i want to do. I am not sure what Figures to use with this kind of Uniforms. I think the Dragon Fallschirmjäger Figures sicilia Regiment 3 could be used with a little bit conversion. Their tropical uniforms looks similar. Also from Dragon the british Commonwealth Infantry, Italy 1943 looks good for a start.
So what kind of Figures do you know could i use for that Projekt in Plastic or Resin? You help would be fantastic.
Many Greetings
Stefan

There are a few options for Borneo/Malaysia. Firestorm does a number of Australian troops in Vietnam kits in resin. You could try some of the DML US Vietnam kits (3313, marine recon springs to mind) and add in a head in bush hats set (firestorm again) and change the weapons to SLRs/Owens/F1s and change the ammo pouches which are similar to the British/Commonwealth .303 pouches of WW2 but slightly shorter.
Boots might present a problem though. Aus troops at the time wore ankle boots and gaiters, but not in the US or UK styles of WW2.
Unfortunately noone make F1 or Owen SMGs but you can scratch an Owen by bastardising a Sten V or make an f1 by modifying a Sterling.

Dragon's set of Vietnam Infantry Weapons has the F1,L1A1 and L34A1 which, I believe, were all used by the Australians and/or British. It also includes the usual M-16 and M-1 carbines that were also in use at the time. I am sure it is not currently in production, but I'm sure you can find someone to donate items you may need (I have 3 or 4 sets around here and I will not be using the F1s--really only got the sets to get the L1A1s for my 70s/80s British figures;you are welcome to the F1s and L34A1s if you want, no charge). Hobby Fan also makes some Australian Infantry which you can use for British or Australian and are pretty much in the uniforms you need--armed with L1A1s and have "Boonie hats". They were made to go with the AFV Club Australian Centurion so should be spot on. Hope this may be of help.

Thank you very much Stephen and Douglas for your answers,
the weapons are no Problem because i have all of them in different dragon sets. The uniforms in that time is a little diffrent than these are used in Vietnam. They are more british ww2 jungle uniforms as you can see by the pockets. The trousers are optical nearly the same like the aussies used in Vietnam. Also the equipment is ww2 stuff and Vietnam era stuff. I have searched the Internet and some books about equipment and weaponery. Itīs an very Interesting and neglectet war particularly in military scale Modeling. These conflict and the experience they won in these jungle war where the headstone for the great success the Australians (SASR) had in Vietnam. I think i will made more Vietnam era Australians with these color plates as inspiration.
