It's a fun kit to build - I did it twice. (Once in the early 1980s, and again last year...) For a 1970s kit the quality of the parts and the delicate engineering of the gun still amaze me!
Hope you enjoy it, and please post some progress shots.

This one I will have to watch. The thing looks like it's going to be HUGE!

I did the Karl years ago and that one was quite something.
Good Luck,

I'll be watching this build because I think it's going to be a fantastic model.
I have this kit and the Morser Karl from HobbyBoss but haven't found the courage to start them yet.
Good luck with your build.
I used to be a scale modeler like you. Then I took an arrow in the knee.

Great build, great finishing. I was surprised at the detail of this model. The biggest dissapointment was the base. the level of detail is really bad compared to the rest of the kit.

This work is simply fantastic. Picking up the old HAsegawa Leopold and achieving this kind of result without using photo-etched parts or any other addons is amazing, you are reeeeally very talented!
I'm happy I found your site and your blog, your work is absolutely inspiring, I will follow it closely.
Thank you very much for sharing, I wish you all the best

Gulumik,
Excellent!

I have this kit in the stash and wasn't planning on putting it together especially now with Trumpter's release. But after seeing yours I may just give it a try. After all it couldn't hurt. It won't turn out as nice as yours but I'll have fun building it. This is the second one I have seen posted here and now I can't decide which one of the two I like the most!
Thanks for sharing.

Very nice, the subtle weathering is perfect for this scale mate

hey gulumik
this is looking really nice how long does it measure out all together?
was there any fit problems with the kit? seeing as its the old 1970s kit.
will you be adding any scenery around it??

Scott, Gulumik;
First of all, I want to tell Gulumik that I’m very impressed with your model of the K5(E) and want to emulate it.
I recently received one of the Hasegawa K5(E)s and am currently trying to track down pictures of this gun during her trip from New York to Aberdeen in 1944 so that I can attempt to copy this prototype. Of course, if I am unable to find photos of this gun during that trip, I can always extrapolate her appearance and condition from her post-capture photos and subsequent photos of her after her arrival at the APG.
As for this issue you guys had with the track bed, I’m going to avoid this by equipping the model with 1:64 scale wheels and making her a functioning ‘S’-scale train model.
I’ll post photos once I get started (next weekend or the weekend after…)
