i note that their is a further update on the new Iraq sets on the Masterbox Web page.Set 1, US figures don't seem to live up to the artwork on the first picture. Set 2 insurgents look very good.

Paul whoever did the US figures art work needs a pay rise, whoever painted them needs a new career. I think the bad painting has put them in a bad light!

Funny...the artwork shows the pointman with a M-16A4 RIS. The actual pointman has a M-16A2 Light Machine Gun.

The pictured of the figures themselves show the Original FN pattern Minimi, not the M249.

Agree with you Martyn,If only the figures where like the art work. It shows different figures with Knee pads, groin protection,Sun glass and different weapons as noted by Peter.I'm not saying that i could paint the figures any better but you would assume that for advertising reasons Masterbox would have wanted the best possible paint job on the figures. I will buy them. Am i right in thinking that the figures depict uniforms worn today by US forces. Maybe there is still some work to be done on the figures.

Cookie, sadly your assumption about these uniforms being worn by today's US soldiers doesn't hold up. I'm a bit confused by the artwork and the actual figures. They're two toatally different sets of uniforms. The 2D painting on the boxtop is a fairly decent depiction of today's Army, although they've got the old Kevlar helmet instead of the new Army Combat Helmet (ACH). But the figures themselves are wearing the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) instead of the new digital-camo-pattern Army Combat Uniform (ACU), and the kneeling guy even has his trousers unbloused - a major military no-no. The chin straps for the Kevlars aren't right either, but that could be fixed easily enough.
It's been fifteen years since I was on active duty, but it seems to me the weapons and the body armor are newer than the uniforms, creating mismatches there too. Also, back when BDUs were worn in the field, we would never have held our weapons in today's exxaggerated "I mean you no harm" stance.
Having said all that, you might very well find private contractors wearing all this stuff in this fashion today.
Hope that helps some...

I note what your saying about the mix of uniforms. The chin straps, are over simplified. The trousers wore over the boot is often seen with our Troops. In the artwork most of them are wearing gloves. The pose of the figures is not bad. They may well be useful and i will get them when they are released. They are in proportion compared to some of the figures Trumpeter have recent releases.

Trumpeter makes the modern M-16A4 and pistol sets---and has released the M-16 series for some time now. The same goes for the Trumpeter Para-SAW. So the sculptor could've used them for these figures. DML weapons are quite old now.
Other companies have made the 1/35 MICH, IBA, groin protectors, gear, etc. I'm not condoning kitbashing and casting of competitor's parts, just that other companies have already released some decent Army ACU and USMC MARPAT figures before.

Those have to be test shots. I read on track link these guys are coming with updated weapons and up to date equipment and body armor. The other reason I believe these are test shots is because one of the guys is holding a mix between a SAW and m16.

Hope that they are test shots b/c the uniforms, helmets, and weapons are all out-dated on the figures. They look just as horrible as Trumpeter figures.

I will say this for them, though: they are quite well sculpted human forms - they are well balanced and very natural looking. That alone is an impressive start

A bit disapointing they seem to be a mish mash of old and new ,appears to be only one camel back, alice pouches with grenade pouch on one fig if they are the final production then Masterbox have lost the opportunity for a first rate set of figures.

I have only made up two of their figure kits Europe 1945 and the French Resistance set, and have the checkpoint set on the shelf, from my point of view they make up into nice little presentations in their own right, although not up to Dragons GEN 2 standard they are quite good.

I've built their WWII US Airborne kit and I've got their Jeep drivers. While I agree that they're not quite as exquisite as some of Dragon's finest, they do complement them nicely scalewise (unlike Verlinden for example). And they're better than Tamiya's early blobs of plastic, if that helps at all

It’s great to see Masterbox considering and producing modern figures. With the huge amount of modern vehicle subjects available today, we are short on good quality modern figures produced in plastic.
Loads available in Resin where one figure is usually more that the cost of a set of theses figure kits. We have known for some time that these figures where being planned. I hope the period since has been used to develop the figures. Like you all I do hope that when they come to general release they will reflect more closely the figures in the artwork. Can I ask that Masterbox continue to develop this niche in the market and possible add other armies to the collection

It looks like they are the only ones out there in plastic at the moment apart from trumps efforts but with a bit of extra work and some cannibalisation could turn out all right.

I suspect you'll find those are the end product as they hit the shelves next month.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will end up being great. Masterbox has released some great figure sets but I will definitely be disappointed if those troops painted up are the actual release. Form wise they look fine but the weapons, equipment and helmets are truly disappointing.

Actually I would prefer them in the "old BDU" style since that would mean I could use them for "late 1980s" style set ups. Can't get much use out of 3. Gulf War style uniforms since those are "not my time"
Oh and I can't wait for the "farmer and cows" set to come out. They have some nice "soon" issued on their page.

I did some research and the weapon that looks like an m16 and a saw mix is what I think is the new heavy barrel m16 that the marines are starting to use in afghanistan instead of the saw if anybody ahs any other ideas of what it is send a shout out thanks
