Hi, I have seen various references to pre-war German camo (the so-called feuersicher Buntfarbenanstrich ("fire-proof colorful camouflage"):
Nr. 17 Erdgelb-matt
Nr. 28 Gruen-matt
Nr. 18 Braun-matt
Most references refer to Humbrol or Xtracolor paints, not exactly the most accurate way to source color. The paint chips online for these brands are NOT similar to the illustrations in reference works I have (e.g., German Half-Tracks of World War Two v. 2), so I wondered if there are any Federal Standard numbers for this camo pattern?

Reportedly Tamiya makes close matches from the bottle.
XF 60 Dark Yellow
XF 10 Flat Brown
XF 26 Deep Green
I have not attempted this pattern before and do not know how accurate this is.

Thanks, but I was looking for something a little more "scientific." Much obliged for the suggestion, though.

Bill
I'm not sure it may help you to make up your mind, but here's what I've found :
Nr. 17 Erdgelb-matt = RAL 8002
Nr. 18 Braun-matt = RAL 8010
Nr. 28 Grün-matt = RAL 6007
Now you can do a Google image search for each RAL reference...

Hi, Frenchy, I did as you suggested and find 8002 and 8010 very similar. The references I've seen show the Erdgelb as, well, more yellow.

Hey Bill!
See if you can get some pics of vids of the Nuremberg Party Rallys.
I recall Panzer I and trucks having Green and Brown patches over the Grey base coat.
The very first book on tanks I ever got was "Kraftfahrzeuge und Panzer der Reichswehr, Wehrmacht und Bundeswehr" over 30 years ago, I still have mine, and the book has been updated over the past centuries.
Looking through it now there are some good pics describing the camo you are after and many others.
Still the best book on German military vehicles around.
Cheers
Christopher

Interesting thread. How about the patterns -- would it be strictly hard-edged? Appreciate any reference pics available on the net. Cheers -- Tat
