I googled like crazy to no avail. Simple yes or no question. Deuce & 1/2 tow a Long Tom? (I almost feel silly for asking). Be gentle.

Jason,
Altho I'm not 100% sure, but this topic pops up from time to time on various DGs. What I can gather is that you're going to need either the 7.5 ton Mack truck or the M5(?) hauler to toot that puppy around. The deuce just didn't have the HP.

The two main towing vehicles for both the Long Tom and the 8inch Howitzer were the Mack 7 1/2 ton truck and the M4 HST (High Speed Tractor) A Duece and a half would have fried it's clutch trying to tow this monster combo never mind trying to stop it if it did get it rolling Brakes are very important in this case!
My 2 Cents
Jeff Larkin
PS: M 5 HST was used to tow the 155 Howitzer and other like sized guns

Another vehicle that towed the big guns in WWII was the M35 Prime Mover, which is basically a turretless M10.

Cool guys, thanks fro the prompt replys. That's what I figured, all I was able to find was the Mack and the M4 tractor towing the Tom. Wanted to show my Tom being towed, but didn't want to have to buy another kit to depict this....oh well, firing position it might well be. Thanks again.

Side note, the "duece' was used to carry ammo...it would make for a nice firing dio with the duece on the side handing out ammo...(sounds like a short order...yeah, give me a long-tom, duece on the side...)
