For some reason I can't find the write up on this figure set, but as mine came in the mail today, I had to address some of the comments about it. 1- the horses scale out pretty much with other 1/35th kits I have. 2-part 47 does not belong on the tack as stated in the instructions, it is the ball and cap pouch for the revolver and belongs on the troopers belt. 3- part 49 is omitted in the instuctions and is the lower part for the shoulder harness for the carbine. 5- the feed bag, part 11, would be forward of the saddle as to not interfer with the horses leg motion. 6- the question of the saddle being correct. It is a pretty good representation of the McClellan model 1859. The only other thing I have oberved is that most troopers attatched the sword to a saddle mount as they were bulky and cumbersome I have not had time to dry fit this kit yet but it does look like it will be a pleasure to build up.

HI There,
I have the kit as well but its in the middle of a conversion to NWMP late 1800's.
Overall I like it but bought it just for the conversion. I would be interested in seeing the finished product.
Cheers
Ray

Bob have you considered writing a review on this product for the site as you seem well versed in the material.

Darren, would be happy to but Jim S. already did one, just found it today.Other aspects would be the position of the medicine pouch on the indian tracker. In the pose that he is in, it should be leaning away from the body, not flush against it. Also, most indians that fought for either side did so dressed in native clothing mixed with some army issue, buckskin breachs and moccasins. And both carbines have a dimple on the reciver on the left side. The trooper wont matter as that side is against him, but the scout will have to be filled in. Still, no real complaints about this kit and will start it next weekend. Will have to scratch a sheathed knife for the scout too.

Jim wrote a review of the kit contents and i believe his intention was to show what was in the kit, and he admits to a limited knowledge of the subject matter. Send in a review and put some more meat on the bone so to speak, I know James is happy to run more than 1 review of a subject.

You should probably submit your review to HF, since these are 'historical' miniatures (albeit 1/35 scale). HF has no issues running multiple reviews of the same product - not that I'm saying Armorama does.

O.K. more meat as asked for. 1st, I can't seem to log on to H.F. so I'll continue here. Brief history. Both sides in the civil war used Indian scouts, mainly Cherokee. Reference indicates this was tribe pay back, not for the north or south. West of the Mississippi, this added a touch of savagery not indicated to the east. Scalpings and mutilations were present but not limited to just Indians. West of the Mississippi was considered gurilla war fare by the mounted and foot forces and pretty grusome by standard. On to the kit. There are two types of carbines that appear to be as follows. For the trooper, a model 1859 Sharps breech loading and the scout carries a Smith carbine that breaks like a older type shotgun and is missing the metal band around the barrel and stock. The detail is soft but these are the closest in my referance. The saber appears to be a model 1840 3 band guard. When you attach the guard make sure the wider part is to the blade end. The trooper comes with officer collar tabs and Sgt. stripes on the arm. You will have to shave off one or the other. The kepi cap should have crossed sabers on the top, not the front. When cutting the stirups be carefull as they break easy, mine did. I didn't have asmuch problem with he horses as I let the glue work the plastic and clamped them, though the neck joint on the Indian horse will need filling and sanding. Both horses should also have a brand for either the U.S./C.S. on the left flank. The figures went together with the only problem being the Indians breech cloth which will need to be filled and trimed/sanded. I suspect that the canteen is off wooden construction where as it should be tin with a cloth covering, tappered at the sides all around. A bit of sanding should take care of that. As a lot of equipment was replaced out west with what ever could be found, the saddle blanket could be as portrayed or of stock U.S. type dark blue. The kit part #13 is a rubber coated blanket and # 6 is a rolled over coat.On the back of the saddle should be 3 oval slots that buckle the blanket to the saddle. Also missig are the troopers gauntlets which would normally be tucked in on the left side of the troopers belt. If you have Verlindins w.w.2 barb wire set, you could use the gloves that come with that set to represent them. As I can't download pictures for some reason I will try to get someone to down load them in the near future. I am doing a dio of the battle of Westport, Mo. on 10/23/1864 as the trooper and scout aproch the crossing at Byrams Ford. Hope this helps anyone with this kit. I have the figures built up with the horses already and just have the equipment to do. So far it has been a pretty easy build and enjoyable.
