Hi, Just wondering, is there a 1/35 Marder/Roland model out there? why isn't any mayor company making this? I think I'm not alone in the lookout for this model, and if Revell Germany and Tamiya already have the basic frame, it would not be much work just to make the Roland part, or am I wrong?

Regards

Elite Modell has it in resin:
http://www.elitemodell.de/shop/article_3541/FlaRakPz-1-Roland-II.html?shop_param=cid%3D8%26aid%3D3541%26

Nimix makes a Roland conversion for an AMX-30 but the price is very close to the complete Elite kit and I think there is a slight stretch to the Marder hull.

I don't think anti-aircraft is a big seller, at least for post WWII, but then again Revell is coming out with the Wiesel 2 LeFlaSys (Ozelot)

Multiple reasons I guess:

+ The Bundeswehr was a bit "security interested" up till the 1990s so if it's not exported there likely is no older model

+ Roland is a nice system and even IN germany many don't know him. Gepard (D/NL, spectacular) is known but even that one only got one so-so model

+ With the other users (France - No/bad base model) and USA (virtually unknown) there is little market either

From a marketing/business PoV bringing out a "paper flakpanzer" (Say FlaRak Enzian on E-75 chassis) is a better decission (even more in this lean times) than building a "nische market" system like Roland.

Tamiya does not care much for the "modern" market except very current stuff. And they are the only ones with a useabel hull since they have an A1/A2 Marder hull in production

Revell throws the occassional "bone" since tanks, even more so in 1:35 are a sideshow for them. Don't get me wrong, I liked the last two bones (Jag, Kanone) and look forward to the next (Otzelot) but I don't expect more than one/year (It seems a "fun" for Revell).

If you are feeling adventurous, you could pick up a 1:87 Roco Roland and scale it up to 1:35. It's actually pretty detailled and would provide a great maquette. Just multiply all dimensions by 2.5x.

I would like to build the Roland also, but I'm not paying a super high price either.

Hello!

There are two other Rolands in 1:35 scale: one was from RN Modell (actually the former owner died, but the company is sold and will restart in near future). The other resine kit was from Gollwitzer I think, but it isn't avaivable anymore.

PM me with your address and I'll mail it down to you. When you're done with it, just mail it back to me. I'll send you my references too, there's a lot of colour pics I printed out.

I had wanted to build a MAN 8x8 Carola (?).

There's also great ref photos at panzermodellbau:

Is this another carrier for the Roland system?

Yes, the Roland carriers I'm aware of:

MAN 6x6
MAN 8x8
Marder

AMX 30

M-109 (prototype only)

There is also a self contain unit that goes in a trailer, I do not remember the designation, but I have it in a book, will check later. I am begining to get all fire up in this Roland thing, I have NEVER build anything from scratch, but this will be a good experience for me, besides, it's only the Roland set, not the Marder. it can open a can of worms.

will be in touch
