After getting some nice feedback I went back and looked at the rock more closely.
An although vegetation is scarce on most places I have found several pictures where you can see a little bit of grass or a little tree growing out of the rock (not in the climbers path)
So to ad some color to the scene I decided to ad some grass and a little tree near the spring.
I have put the Gray primer on and the grass, next step (tomorrow) will be to put the black acrylic shadow color and then the fun begins :-)
I hope you like it
Any remarks or comments are welcome.
Here you can see a few of the karabiners I made (± 100 pieces)

WOW! I really like the effect of the sprinkles of greenery. Very visually appealing.
The 'off balance' base, pegged in the small end is visually very nice too.
What did you use to bend the carabiners?
Have you decided rope or no rope?
Mike

Looking great so far, Roadkill !! I'm sure your father-in-law will really appreciate it. I know I would if someone did that for me. The adding of the green makes it lookeven better. Keep up the good work! :-)

Ronny, this project is coming along very nicely. The vegetation really gives it nice depth.

Tnx for the reply's fellows :-)
I used a piece of plasticard of of 1mm thick and 2.2mm wide and wound some soldering (lead) wire of 0.5 mm around it, cut and ready
There will be a rope, I could decide to leave it and still be correct but I want to put a bright rope in the scene to give some extra color

Wow, I think those carabiners came out really well. The cut marks suggest the closure points on the real thing; I think they look better than they would if made from continuous links.

and you were concerned you couldn't pull it off. Never a concern here!
Very nice, the plant life works, well done. I would give the lichen stuff a wash or two to give a bit of different green color. It looks good.
The base is well executed, gap really helps create elevation.
Have you made a decision on sock or not?

If you have access to any medical supplies, have a look at some different packs of sutures. I think your guy would love to be using a nice violet 3-0 Coated Vicryl. If violet is not your first choice, get the undyed and paint it whatever color you like.
If someone local can't help you, PM me your address and I'll send you a couple of packs.

Wow Ronny,
You've been busy this weekend. Looks EXCELLENT !
Some colored rope would look nice.
I'd make those rocks a LOT darker, and add brownish tones...

Hehehe, tnx for the support, this is what I like on this site
Don't worry the rock will not stay this pale, the gray primer is just there to give the paint something to bite in, I have given it black acrylic coating now and I will let it rest for at least 24h.
I have selected the following colors for my washes and drybrushing:
gray
black
l. brown
d. brown
sepia
raw umber
orange
blue
white
green
Olive Drab
yellow
So it will (I hope) be a rock which has some nice and subtle color variations on it
Dave, the banners will not be painted, they have a nice sheen to it as they are, but I was thinking of painting the closing points in a bright red, blue, purple and yellow color (remember I have to do over 100 pieces )
Scott,
It is a little piece of Sea Foam covered with parsley. I intend to pant the foliage in several greens and yellows.
to make it right I have to get rid of the socks and alter the shoes, but to be honest I am starting to chicken out on the figure
Patrick,
Never heard of that, but I will look around tomorrow, if I can't find it that I let you know, tnx for the offer.

Ronny - I simply can't hold my tongue any longer! Normally I admire your work for the great realism and clarity, but darn it... this is just TOO BLATANT.
Perhaps you don't know much about climbing, but here it the plain simple truth I I can't believe no one else has noticed this!:
Ronny - it may be a shock, but most mountain climbers have HEADS... that is how they see, and breath while climbing. And they don't have Copper forarms either! Who told you they have copper arms? Sheesh man, stop sniffing so much glue!
And another thing.... why would anyone climb a mountain that was embedded in a base of square marble!? That is just too unrealistic.... and don't even get me started on the actual size of this darn mountain....
Man - this Golden Rivit award has truly gone to your head!
:-)

Hi Ronny,
Looks Great and I think I can help on the figure side of things. Since your in Belgium, finding a hobby shop which stocks "preiser" figures won't be too difficult. look for "Adam" in 1/32nd scale.
(check your email for a picture)As you may know these are "Multi-Pose Nude" figures and the assortment of arms and legs should allow any pose you could imagine. (they have "Eve" too... but thats a different story!) The way I see it, it'll be easier to make clothing for a figure than to sculpt an entire figure anyway!
Good Luck and we'll be looking forward to more up-dates
Chuck
