making 1/35 scale coconut tree

Here is my step of handmade coconut palm tree created. I usually use this to add to my diorama especially vietnam war. Thank you very much for every comments and hope you like this post.
Step 1. prepare all epuipments for begin the job. 30 pcs. of wire #22, art clay in white color, small scissors, cutting plier, coconut leaf print from pc. size of the leaf 8x3cm.

step 2. cut 30pcs. of coconut leaf from paper printed.

step 3. coat 30pcs. of wire with water glue.

step 4. stick all 30pcs. of leaf and wire together.

step 5. waiting until glue is dry then slice palm leaf as thin as you can (depend on your eyesight).

step 6. after the slice spread out every tree leafs.

step 7. find piece of foam and stab all finish leafs on it.

step 8. spray light green color to all leafs.

step 9. wait till color dry then gather all of them together.

step 10. fasten 30pcs. of wire with piece of wire and make it tighty stronge.

step 11. spread out white clay and cover to the coconut wire trunk.


step 12.use a small scissors and slice on surface of clay at the top of tree trunk make it look like coconut spathe.

step 13. use cutter knife and scratch around the trunk make it like trunk sections.

step 14. again make the texture of tree trunk with small screw driver.

step 15. make again coconut spathe with small scissors on lower of tree trunk.

step 16. wait untill art clay is dry and spray cove the tree trunk with light brown color over top with medium brown, prepare coconut fruit I use a little foam ball from the flora shop.

step 17. color coconut fruits with light green and over top with light brown.

step 18. glue it to the top of tree trunk with fast dry glue.

step 19. after finish every things you can bend coconut leafs to the action you like.

step 20. now you finish your coconut tree and ready for your diorama.

You've just given me the push to build a pacific diorama I've had on hold due to the tree's.

This technique of wrapping the wire is a great one.
It makes simple sence.
I would add variation colors to the palms - browing edges, yellow highlights etc.

Very good information and help with the palm trees. One question where do you get the printed sheet with the coconut leafs from? This will be very helpful in some of the dioramas I have planned. Don't worry abot your english it is very good. I think your spelling is better than mine. Keep up the good work waiting for your next updates.

Hi Thomas, thank you to yours reply. I design coconut leafs in my pc. and print it after the finish work, with this quote I attach the picture of coconut leaf I design and you can upload if you plan to do the tree. About size 8x3cm. each leaf. Thanks.
