I did the math for someone on Fine Scale Modeler's website:

3/8"=1' which is the same as 3/8"=12"
multiply both sides by 8: 8 X 3/8"=8 X 12"
gives you: 3"=96"
divide both sides by 3: 3"/3=96"/3
gives you: 1"=32" or 1/32 scale

FYI " is the symbol for inches and ' is the symbol for feet. 12" in each foot for those of you not familiar with our archaic system of measurement.

1/32 scale is close enough to 1/35 scale so that a lot of stuff can be used together.

Your retention of a proper system of measurement is to be applauded. The theory that decimals have an advantage does not really stand up to scrutiny.

After all no-one seems to be promoting a ten hour day or a 100 degree circle.

My local and foreign beers are sold in real dozens because the decimal advocates cant build a five pack!
