Hi all,
Just putting the finishing touches on my Trumpeter s.K.18 and I am somewhat confused.
I read in an on-line article that when in towing configuration the gun tube was in full recoil and since I'm planning to attach this piece to my Trumpeter SdKfz 7 I wonder if that is how I should fix it.
My peronal experience with artillery pieces is minimal but still I cannot imagine how you'd get the gun locked in full recoil in order to transport it....
All ideas welcome...

The gun is in a sliding carriage, right? That's pulled back all the way and locked. Balances the gun.
For long hauls, the barrels were transported separately.
I thought 9s were used to transport these, not 7s, but for short distances on good roads I guess it was OK

In addition to what Kevin says: Not only does it balance the gun, but it shortens it so the danger of the muzzle hitting the earth or clipping something on the turn is eliminated.
Kevin: The SdKfz 7 hauled 8.8cm Flaks and Paks, 15cm sFH and the 10.5cm K 18. It was a very useful halftrack

Yes, the gun-barrel is in full-recoil-position while in travelling, because of the shorter appearance while driving through the landscape. (itīs more secure for the barrel)
On all my photos of this gun I see this.
I also built Trumpeterīs gun and made a build-log here.
For the in-travel-position, the barrel-carriage is locked using two small hooks.
On Trumpeterīs kit, these will not fit correctly.

Thanks for the replies guys! Full recoil it is then...!
Looks like Kevin's post disappeared.......?
Soeren, yes, I noticed the travel locks for the carriage and the fact that they are out of position and unable to lock - inexplicable, since Trumpeter actually gives instructions for building the gun only in transport mode..... I looked into correcting it but gave up, too much surgery for not so much gain...
Can you post the link to your build log please?
