I did a little hunting around and was unable to find a good review or article discussing it so I had a question about the photo etch zimmerit and how the quality/accuracy is. It is fairly inexpensive which is a big draw for me but would like to have a decent look.
I also looked at the lion roar roller for zimmerit which I may pick up just to have since i really like the way it comes out. thanks for any information.

Is that the Eduard stuff ? I've got several sets of it and used part of one ( I get sidetracked easily ). Personally I like it.
This is a build log by a friend of mine using Cromwell PE Zimmerit. I though it had got a bit further than that but looks like he either lost interest in the build or the build log.

In my opinion its not a great idea.
A friend once built an elephant and used the etched zimmerit. He was so dissapointed with the result, he removed it and replaced with Attak instead. What a difference it made.
Its so flat the relief is minimal, and then the pattern is so perfect. The biggest problem is getting it perfect at the corners and edges. When you have to complete with putty, its not easy to get the pattern so fine.

Matt the problem with PE zimmerit is that it looks too clean. It looks machined if you will. Zimmerit was hand applied. Much like you would apply the glue for tiles in a kitchen or a bathroom. It is not supposed to look even. The PE zimmeret always looks even. When using the resin versions of the zimmerit it looks more realistic. When making it yourself, which a lot of modelers do, it can look even better because you can remove portions of it to make it look like its been chipped off. I suppose you could do that with the resin versions as well but I suspect its easier when doing by hand. Hope that helps. Good luck!

I used PE Zim on a Tiger II. The main issue that I had was where the panels join and using putty to try and make it seamless was difficult.

That actually looks pretty decent Rick, we will see since I am holding on to my $$'s for a Formations jumbo I might have to try out the PE zim on my tiger.

The earliest PE sets were indeed far too perfect, though later releases have more irregularities in the patterns. I prefer resin or home made Zimmerit, myself, but I've seen some good builds using photoetch Zimmerit. The absolutely vital thing is to putty all joints, or it will look like aluminum siding. While you're at it, use dabs of putty to add minor smears and "mistakes" on the Zimmerit to make it more convincing as a layer of hardened paste. As with all Zimmerit appliques, resin or photoetch, use five minute epoxy rather than super glue to attach it, so you have time to position it perfectly. Super glue will set up far too fast.
