it was a consideration that the gun mount material was far to thick ,so a temporary was knocked up ,until the correct gauge was found. So out came the vernier and the right gauge of metal (plastic) was found and cobbled together to give a better gun mount at the back.

Hey Vanguard,
Looking good! Is the MG mount based on a prototype? I ask because it's a real tail-gun charlie set-up, and firing forward would involve some serious gymnastics.

Barking digger having had another look ,there is still the tail gate to be fitted ,this stays permanently down and provides a platform for any forward facing firing.

Hi there mate. Glad to see your combination coming together and looking good.
This is a set of pics that I collected when looking for reference on some Landrover detailing. If I remember right it was from an E-bay advert for selling this one.
I can't vouch for the authenticity of the mounts etc as this might well have been a proper fabrication by a REME workshop for a purpose or simply reconstructed by the owner based on a detail used in a particular unit somewhere.
Just as a wee bit extra here are a couple of pics of GPMG simply supported on the canvas which shows that any unit has the capability to boost their convoy protection even for rear guard units not supplied with up-armoured vehicles.
I am sure someone like Frenchy will have access to other pics of units that have done other versions to upgun their vehicles as basic field modifications.

I meant to say to you to remember the thicker Anti Roll Bar and frame behind the driver and between the first two canvas supports.
This was on the older and newer landrovers.
All the best

Hi
Nice work so far, I really like the trailer, who makes it, or did you scratch it?
Can't comment as to the authenticity of the photos you have based the build on. , the second set are from an 'at home'/open day event, I'd consider the canvas mount a bit 'optimistic'
It looks like your jimpy mount is fouling the towhook, and by extension the tailgate.
The rolled canvas looks a bit chunky, try thin tissue or old clean hanky.

hi there
the trailer is AA.
The actual tow clip is further down on the tow plate. And the tail gate opens out on hinges making it stand off the upright.
Tha tarp is one sheet of toilet paper(soft soft soft) soaked in wood glue and I feel its fine. And might be decieving as its white at mo.
At mo must press on wit the build and other matters

Sounds like the photos Okdoky posted might be a civvie vehicle tricked-out for the military collector market? Either way you're modelling from a photo so can't get more authentic than that! You just have to accept the prototype might not be what it seemed...
Still, it's a cracking model, and I can't wait to see it develop!

Aussie Landies in Vietnam
The mount in the second picture appears to come from a Bell Huey chopper ..
Frenchy
Both of them are RAAF Airfield Defence Guard landies. The twin M-60 mounts were the same as the door mounts on the Bushranger Helicopters. Later in the war, and post vietnam, the slick door gun mounts were used until the Mag-58 replaced the M-60.
I am currently building that Landrover with the twin 60's. Will post pics soon.
Great build too BTW! Looking good!

looking good Phonetic! Can't wait to see this finished.
Who cares about the mod? It's your model, so build it how you like. Who can accurately say, for 100%, that the rovers did not have that mod?

The aspect of taking photos of your model, leads to a scrutiny of the mistakes and the work stil required.
The join between the cab and the back section was naughty ,theres only the thin section of the door and the walls to glue together ,may have to add some bracing here somehow.

One other mod that i did do was to change the hand of the steering to rhd .On the previous landrover 1 I hacked the dash to pieces and reasembled it rhd.
On this on I have only cut of the instrument panel and stuck on the right along with the steering wheel assembly.
Obviously a bit of tidying to do here.
